How To Stop Voting Machines (for reals)
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 01:46 PM by slybacon9
It's on the homepage right now!

We get the step by step process of how to hack the machines and we send it out to every politician we can find. Send it to every voting poll location. Email it to everyone you know. Have stacks of discs available in front of the polls.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2575486

Make the information available to EVERYONE.

With all of our resources we have to have the connection to the people (like that guy (at Princeton was it?) that did it in 1 minute) that know how to hack these suckers, we should be able to get the info. Send it to me. I will turn it into a gorgeous .PDF or burn discs or whatever all day long if i have to.

There is no way these machines will be able to be used then. Not only will it serve to show everyone just how easy it is, just how vulnerable the system is (to those who don't get it already), the gun will be placed in everyone's hands. Not only will we be the victims, but we will be the suspects as well, rendering the machine invalid and useless.

It's perfect.

4. I'm missing something here....
So, you hack the machines, and then what? How is it going to be obvious they're been hacked and WHICH ones?

5. NO NO we don't hack ANYTHING....
We provide the HOW TO to everyone we can find. There is no way that these machines can be taken seriously if every politician/voter has been given the directions on how to do it.

In other words, if everyone has the key to a safe... there is no longer a "safe". the thing that makes a safe a safe is no longer functional... it becomes just a box. Useless.

9. What you are missing is that "instructions"
on how to do it is NOT equivalent to being able to do it. Probably you still need to have physical access to the machine. If everyone has the key to the safe, but there are armed security guards around the safe, there still is a "safe".

11. So, do you expect that a bunch of people
with their little "how to hack Diebold" instructions sheet would go out at night, break into a govt building and hack the voting machines?... To prove that the system is broken? Just trying to understand here...

12. no no ... like i said, no hacking
what i meant before, to continue with the metaphor... If you show everyone the combination to the safe, the safe becomes useless, and therefore a new safe must be figured out.

voting has always relied on a system of trust and a system of security.

at this point, both are in jeopardy.

but there is not enough jeopardy to actually make either the trust or the security worth reevaluating.

now, we have been trying to put the incidents under a microscope for all to see for the past 6 years. It's not working. So, instead of pointing at the incidents and screaming, we actually make the "jeopardy" bigger.

We show how riduculous it is to put our trust into something that has absolutely no worthy security. Therefore forcing the issue.

So... we show everyone the combination to the safe, regardless if anyone ever uses said combination.

(we've been hiding the combination while trying to argue that the safe no longer works... meanwhile it still works for half the population ;) )

13. Our registrar sends voting machines home with pollworkers for sleepovers
in garages. Anyone with a blackberry can hack one remotely. Plus the keys are the same ones that fit any hotel minibar!

14. On Voting Day All Voters Have Access to Voting Machines
Anybody has access on election day. If you read some of the articles about how these machines can be hacked with demonstrations, they did it when they were in the voting booth -- hidden from view. Smart cards... USB ports... anybody can do it if they know the correct code!!!

16. I did not realize
You could do it from the voting booth. If that's possible (which I doubt), then the party with the most tech savy voters will win :)

15. Brilliant! Have you considered running for President?
This would not have required anyone to do anything illegal. It's like giving kids instructions on how to find and download MP3's.

It is the most simple and logical way to handle the voting machine process.

And it shows that you have more savvy and critical thinking than any of the "big three" Democratic candidates. YOU should be the one to run for President. Or, at the very least, you should become "Gore's Brain" or something.
