Ask MoveOn to help mobilize their members against Alito
MoveOn.org, as you well know, has over 3.3 million members and could most certainly help in stopping Alito. Could you sign this petition that asks them to get involved? Thank you.

1. MoveOn is involved - I sent an LTTE yesterday through them -
Here's part of the email I received:

"Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of Samuel Alito. Every Democrat voted against— the first nomination to lose every minority party vote in 90 years.1 The nomination now goes to the full Senate for a final vote, which could happen in less than a week.

Many of the committee Democrats based their historic opposition on what the New York Times called Alito's "extreme views on presidential authority."2 President Bush claims the power to detain American citizens without trial, torture at will, and spy, apparently illegally, on our private conversations. Confirming Alito to the Supreme Court would threaten the last real check against presidential abuse of power.

The next few days are the last chance we have to influence the Senate before the final vote. So, today, we're aiming to send in 10,000 letters to the editor to newspapers around the country, opposing the nomination of Samuel Alito and Bush's plan to put himself above the law."

As of last night, more than 10,000 LTTEs to more than 1200 newspapers had been sent.

2. MoveOn has been involved - just yesterday they
asked members in key states to send Letters to the Editor to their local papers. According to RightMarch over 5,000 of MoveOn 'minions' sent letters.

MoveOn also collected signatures opposing Alito. I delivered a portion of 6,558 signatures on the petition to my Senators offices.

I am *hardly* a fan of everything they do, but they have fought pretty hard, though People for the American Way has really gone all out.

3. They are already involved

They just sent out a e-mail the other day asking people to hand deliver the petitions and letters they have collected to senators office.
