"- Hattie McDaniel, the first black actress to win an Academy Award, was honored Wednesday with a U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamp."

Hattie McDaniel was one of my two favorite actresses as a small child--(the other was Julie Andrews)...there was just something about her---

I think she was just brilliant and talented.

1. That is EXCELLENT!
For once, I agree with a stamp decision. Thanks Stephanie for bringing this to my attention! :hi:

4. Wasn't she just the coolest person?
Like I said, there was just "something about her" that attracted me to her--This will be the FIRST time I have ever requested a stamp in the Post Office, other than, "Do you have flowers?"

:)

5. Everytime I see clips of her acceptance speech I get goosebumps.
She was the coolest.

2. Awesome, and overdue!
She garnered enough clout to get some control over the roles she played. And, in that era of segregation, that speaks volumes of volumes.

6. She took that role, and made her character more memorable than
Scarlett's...in my humble opinion. Her acting overshadowed Olivia de Havilland's in the movie.

3. Oh, I am thrilled too!
Bless you Hattie for your talent and courage. And for the latter day comers (i.e. Halley B) who want to credit their accomplishments but ignore Hattie's because they don't like the roles she took---well take this!

Kudos. I will buy those stamps to promote and honor Hattie.

7. She stole every scene she was ever in
no matter how she'd been directed to shuck and jive in the only roles she was ever offered, those of a maid.

I'm glad she's getting honored. It's overdue.
