Homeschooling prevents pregnancy, shootings & STDs say So. Baptists
Who knew? Ask Andrea Yates!

WorldNetDaily ^ | 10/20/2006 | Bob Unruh

If you like sexually transmitted diseases, shootings and high teen pregnancy rates, by all means, send your children to public schools. That's the word from a leader in the fast-growing movement within the 16 million-member Southern Baptist Convention for parents to pull their children from those schools in favor of homeschooling. Pastor Wiley Drake The program is called Exit Strategy and Pastor Wiley Drake, whose home state of California has done some things especially offensive to Christians this year, is a leading promoter. In an interview with WND, he said that those problems and others are prevalent in public schools

12. I homeschool and frankly this thread makes me sick that dems here
would post responses like the ones here. Shame too. I have voted Democratic for 20+ years. My kids are socialized better than many public school kids, we're not inbred, nor are we in a sex cult. Guess that shouts to your illusions, huh?

Blech to this bunch of ignorant responses. I'd expect this from the neocons, frankly.

Thanks Zidzi. I appreciate your reply above all.

18. Welcome to DU!
There's a misconception that only a certain type of people homeschool their kids. But, all I've ever known are parents who are intelligent and creative and want the best for their kids and for whatever reason don't think they can find that at the local public school.

I know two kids who have been home-schooled all their lives but have just now wanted to go to the high school with other kids and they are getting very good grades and fitting right in.

4. Well I guess it makes a little sense
If homeschooled kids never meet other kids, they are less likely to have sex with them, thereby preventing pregnancy and STDs. Can't figure out the shootings though. If I had had to spend all day every day with my siblings and parents, I would have shot myself.

5. That's why we public school, because we like STD's,
shootings and teen pregnancy. Those things are the best! :sarcasm:

I saw this article earlier and think the first sentence is one of the lamest I've EVER seen in print.

8. Newsflash for the braintrust at WeirdNutsDaily
Just yesterday, I was cruising through a fundie homeschoolers site (don't ask - long story) and saw that one of the regulars was announcing her daughter had gotten pregnant.

Not to mention that homeschooled children and/or their parents are in the news for one hideous crime or another in numbers that at least match up to their population frequency.

There are exceptions, I'm sure, but overall, kids don't "go bad" because of what's going on at school. They "go bad" because of what is or isn't going on at home.

on out-of-wedlock teen prgnancy because her daughter did it. Twice.

15. Wow!
So many knowledgable responses against homeschooling! I'm sure everyone lifting their nose like they just got a hefty whiff of shite has actually tried it.

After all, it would be pretty pompous to talk about the issue when you have no direct interest in the matter.

17. Wow! Studies have shown that if you separate teens by sex...the boys
don't grow up. Seems they need the negative reaction of girls to their stupid juvenile antics..to do a little growing. Why lots of the rich private schools have gone "co-ed" I would guess.

No doubt it would please juveniles like much of the GOP to get rid of that civilizing influence that teen girls have over teen guys in class. They would then have more of a base..wouldn't they! For that reason..I'm sure the GOP is happy to see talk like this.

Because, you know, condoms are proven to prevent against pregnancies and STDs, much more so than homeschooling...

21. Homeschooling is good to a point.....
...But what the kid loses is how to interact with society, kids need that social interaction for mental development. Just because your kid is schooled at home/church institution does not mean that they will not become a serial killer or a criminal and it is likely to cause even more curiosity rather then less about such things...

Christians are not psycologist or scientist, what they are doing here is selling yet another damaging social falsity. Its all propaganda when it comes from their tongue to propel their agenda to close down or cripple social intitutions and establish their own 'Christianized" institutions. It sll part of the plan..Trust me.
