Bush, Cheney said still close

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Vice President Dick Cheney has grown closer to President Bush as the two prepare for their sixth year in office, White House officials say.

"I don't think the relationship is strained at all," a senior administration official in Cheney's office told The Washington Times, commenting on media speculation of a rift. "Every once in a while, I see stuff written to that effect, but I think it's closer than it has ever been."

Senior officials in the offices of both men said Cheney remains valuable to the president because he has no presidential ambitions of his own.

Further, in a White House that prizes loyalty and discretion, the vice president has demonstrated both to Bush.

2. Hard to know what to make of this
At any rate, obviously if President Bush had a vice president who could run as president some day, he'd be in a lot tighter spot.

6. It sounds like something from The National Enquirer ...
... George and Dick Still In Love, Sources Say ... "Despite rumors to the contrary, the couple was seen canoodling in a cozy booth at a trendy cafe and later spotted picking out baby clothes at a nearby boutique."
