HEADLINE: Nelson widens lead over Harris in latest poll (26 points)
Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson has widened his lead over challenger Katherine Harris to 26 points -- a gap that says as much about voters' dislike of Harris as it does about their enthusiasm for Nelson.

Nelson is ahead with 57 percent, to Harris' 31 percent, according to the Mason-Dixon poll released tonight.

Yet less than half voters -- 48 percent -- had a favorable opinion of Nelson. Such a mediocre approval rating normally would be a handicap for some incumbent senators -- who usually rank in the mid-50s -- except the poll showed that 46 percent had unfavorable opinions of Harris, said pollster Brad Coker.

"He can get away with it because she is such a lightning rod," Coker said. "He'd have a little harder time if he had a different opponent."

1. "Yet less than half voters...had a favorable opinion of Nelson"
That's the truth. Based on the infuriating "replies" I got from him regarding Iran and other things, he's more like an old-fashioned moderate Repug than a Democrat. I'll hold my nose casting my vote for him.

3. It always surprises me when someone says
they received replies from Nelson's office. The only 'replies' I've ever gotten have been an auto-responder. Calling his office is a lesson in futility.

But, I know for a fact that lightning would strike me dead if I, even for a fraction of a second, considered voting for the vile creature who is running against him.

5. You actually get a reply from Nelson's office?
I'm impressed, I've never gotten a single one. I didn't get hung up on one time by one his staffers.

Bob Graham on the other hand use to send very nice letters that actually addressed the issue at hand.

7. Yep, a boiler-plated reply on real letterhead
...in response to my fax urging him not to support military action against Iran. I don't think I kept it but I'll dig around and see if I didn't just shred it. It had me FUMING.

2. Not according to Kate's "straw poll" held in Lakeland, FL.........
last week. She a shoe-in. That is if 12 year olds who've been bribed can vote, that is.

I can't wait to see this disgusting piece of trash go down in flames. That alone will buoy my spirits for weeks to come.

4. She needs to quit plucking those straws from her broom,
or she'll have nothing left to fly home on when she loses.

6. Nelson goes up in the polls
and he hasn't lifted a finger. Imagine how much of a spread there would be if he actual did some campaigning.

I've not seen a single yardsign, TV commericial, not even a mailer.

I know he's sitting on a fair bit of money, might be nice if he came out and gave Jim Davis a hand, Davis needs all the help he can get.

8. I've seen tons of tv commercials
That's where Nelson has put his money. He's been bombarding the airways since early in the race--far more and much longer commercials than Harris OR our candidate for Governor, Jim Davis.

10. I have to admit I don't watch much TV
but it may also be a regional issue? I'm up in N FL and the only one I've seen commercials for almost everyday is Alex Sink and friggin' Charlie Crist.
