There is new information on the former White River Sheriff injured in Iraq.

Tate Mallory has been upgraded to critical-stable, he told his brother over the phone. Mallory was working with the military because of his law-enforcement background to help train Iraqi police officers.

Family members say a grenade explosion hit him in the chest and stomach.

1. Safer to train police recruits in Jordan

The men had travelled to Jordan by the thousands, arriving at the base to receive police-officer training. Once their eight-week stint had finished, they would head back to police their war-torn country, plunging themselves into the middle of Iraq’s sectarian violence and engaging in regular gunfights with insurgents.

While in Jordan...helped train 36,000 Iraqi cadets-some of whom were policemen during Saddam Hussein’s regime. Others previously worked as shepherds, shopkeepers and farmers. All were looking for work. Out of this group, roughly 6,000 have already been wounded, captured or killed since returning to Iraq.
