10/19/06 Sweeney Asks for Clarity on Rules
It is in today's Times Union (Albany).

ALBANY -- Amid sharp criticism from Democrats and labor unions, U.S. Rep. John Sweeney sought guidance from the House Committee Wednesday on how he should handle the reporting of his 2001 trip to a Pacific island in the company of a now-convicted lobbyist.

In a letter released by the Clifton Park Republican's office, Sweeney said he traveled to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands with "the understanding" that the trip was paid for by the CNMI government.

Is it just me or is he trying to put the blame on someone else?

And by the way, Kirsten's response was: "It is no surprise that John Sweeney is in trouble again," Gillibrand said in a statement. "It's not clear what's worse: his failure to disclose that a criminal paid for his trip abroad, or that he was willing to sing the praises of an island of sweatshops and child prostitution."

1. Lighten up on Sweeney!
You know, it's not always easy to categorize these things. Was it a bribe and filed under "B", or maybe it was graft and should be under "G"? Of course, you could just file it under corruption, but Sweeney's "C" file is getting pretty thick.

2. Or under I for incompetence
that seems to be the alternative excuse. He is a republican and they become really incompetent when they get caught. It must be genetic or something because they all do it. "How could we have known..." Oh the familiarity of that that phrase!

3. Let's see we got strip bar donors
reports of him being falling down drunk, a son who beats other kids into a coma and gets off with probation (as a juvenile and he was 18), now he thinks sex slavery is such good family values. I don't know people in CD 20 with his values, we deserve someone who reflects the values of the district not him.

And did he give us his report on his runins with NYS Troopers? The DWI's that he got?

And did he give back the money he got from Foley?

We got another gop candidate headed for rehab! The drinking made him do it.

5. But isn't that the Republican way?
Ignore it until someone finds out then figure out your strategy.
