Why Can't We Have A Contract For America?

The Republicans had their Contract (On) America in 1994. Why can't we have a Contract For America in 2006?

I realize your post is half tongue-in-cheek, but the "Contract With America" crap comes up fairly regularly here, and I think it's important to smack it down whenever it does. The "Contract with America" is the REPUBLICAN's.


That is a purely, 100% REPUBLICAN idea. It is pure lunacy to come up with anything even remotely relating to "a Contract With/On/For/To/Under/Whatever America." Why adopt the basic idea of Newt Gingrich and the defining point of "The Reagan Revolution" and ape the very centerpiece that helped get us to this mess? If I was a GOP talking head, I'd be pointing that out faster than you can say "Clinton's fault!"

ANYTHING that hints of "Contract With America" is simply advertising through implication that the Republicans really did have the good ideas, and we just want to copy them.

7. Too late in the election cycle in my view

First, the value is in nationalizing the election ush and FOley have already done that.
Second, It would appear gimmicky
Third, If we can have an honest moment. Dems as a group do not want an action plan that they have to be accountable for. We are not as organized as the GOP. ANd the GOP would watch for every failed issue and ramp up the rhetoric in '08
Fourth, Dems have skeletons as well... and it is impossible to control excesses effectively.
