3. It's what I'm calling the November Surprise.
Baker will announce the 'change the course" plans (cut and run) after the election.

5. Now THIS is the October Surprise from the GOP.
A planned change in Iraq War strategy just prior to the election in an attempt to hang on to Repub party members who were feeling disillusioned by the state of the war.

11. I guess they aren't afraid of having to fight them over here anymore
Because, that's what happens when you cut and run, according to jr.

25. They don't plan to leave
just to disengage from the "nation-building" project, and let Iraq evolve on its own into a brutally repressive dictatorship (led by sectarian militia figures, Imams, or whatever comes down the pike) while our troops sit in their gigantic bases well away from the Iraqi population. Whoever holds power in Baghdad will have our total support in whatever he needs to do to hang on to power (hint: state sanctioned mass murder will be involved), so long as he supports our base presence.
It probably won't work either, but it's all they have left.

14. They haven't had one, and don't have one.
But they've decided they'd better get one before the elections, because not having one is not working any longer.

Confused yet? Now you know how it feels to be a Repuke.

12. Presidents can do that.
They can change course in a war once public opinion builds up against them. But Its soooooooooooo late in the game and he is suuuuuuuch an obstinate asshole that it probably won't help him. Other Presidents would have been much more politically astute.

13. This is the word, as reported on BBC- but WHY are we hearing it?
did they want to keep it under wraps until after the election, and it's just getting out by accident?

OR have they decided they need to convince people that they are changing course and deserve a second shot and are therefore "leaking" the news that they are giving up on their initial objectives in Iraq?

(note: Bushler giving up on their initial objectives in Iraq doesn't mean LEAVING, just letting a different form of gov't take shape in Baghdad. Our efforts to remake Iraq into a junior bourgeois republic in our image that would govern democratically and be a friend to Israel and close ally to us is what Bushler would be giving up on--not camping in the world's oil patch. The Baker report appears to endorse the possibility of unleashing a Saddam-like repressive tyranny with explicit Washington approval and backing in order to bring stability to Iraq--this is the so-called "STABILITY FIRST" option.)

15. It won't save the midterms for the GOoPers...
The immense disapproval they're seeing right now comes from an amalgam of poor decisions on many different issues. Foley was the "dam buster" and it's simply too late for them. I think we've got the House and Senate now after seeing the latest MO and OH polls in the Senate races.

24. And of course they'll say this was their message all along!
"We've never said we'll never leave Iraq!" (Although, didn't * say exactly that? Something about never leaving during his presidency even if Laura and the dog were against him on it?).

Pukes THINK they are masters of spinning their message; nothing is a flip flop to them. THIS may be different, after so much "cut and run" talk.

I think they're screwed. And they know it.

28. Of course they're saying that!
Elections coming!! Just a political ploy to try and fool some of the moderates that maybe, just maybe, they might do things right.
That idea will be dropped like a hot rock day after the election
