Republicans are not giving up on Sandy Berger....
Republican leaders seek congressional probe of Berger classified documents issue

The Associated Press

Published: October 11, 2006

WASHINGTON A group of Republicans in the House of Representatives called Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the improper handling of classified documents by President Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger.

Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000 (€40,000).

Ten lawmakers led by House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter and Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner released a letter calling for the House Government Reform Committee to investigate.

They asked the committee to determine whether any documents were missing from Clinton administration terrorism records, to review security measures for classified documents and to seek testimony from Berger.

Hunter's spokesman, Joe Kasper, said the Justice Department had asked Congress to hold off on any oversight until the legal case concluded.

1. Let 'em have their fun.
It will be one of their last frivolous follies. Soon, the barrel of the gun will be pointing in a different direction...

2. Berger took copies; Berger admitted it; Berger was fined.
Berger is not running for govt office.

Double jeopardy is still part of US law.

republicans can try to use Berger as their distraction from their little criminal problems all they like. It'll keep them busy and continue to make themselves look the total fools they are. :)

10. I don't get how this is still an issue for them
the man pleaded GUILTY. What else is he supposed to do? It's such an obvious decoy.

Truly a sight to behold, a party beaten. The once great GOP, now a study in moppishness.

12. It isn't. Of course they don't give a shit about law-breaking.
They're desperate for distractions and "blame the Dems".

3. Let the fools work over a schlub who hasn't been around for years....
... While we work on getting new folks in office, with a lil less opposition than we would otherwise have had.

4. Good God if that's the worst they can come up with.
Rehashing old dead non-scandals. I do suppose that it revs up the true believers and dittoheads so I guess this issue has its uses.

6. Shows how worried the GOP is about 9/11 culpability.
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 09:58 AM by leveymg
This is a preemptive strike - they're clearly expecting more to come out about the Bush Administration's criminal negligence and mismanagement of counter-terrorism prior to 9/11.

Blame it on the Dems, and maybe they won't all have to swing.

8. How pathetic. Poor things are so desperate, all they do is blame Clinton.
What do they tell us? Whenever anyone brings up how we got into the mess in Iraq, they say "that's in the past, we need to concentrate on what we do now." No accountability at all. Yet they'll waste time and money on playing "blame the Clinton Administration".

Get over it idiots.

9. My fantasy has always been: Berger was copying docs
that prove Clinton did more to stop terrorists than shrubbie, and he thought the shrub admin was going to destroy them.

14. That could be why he did it but not giving the real reason.
He realizes the Bush cabal is not to be trusted.

rehashed? This is the most important thing to talk about right now? Do they really think nobody is going to see through this?

20. But but but, we all saw him blow off killing OBL on ABC-RWTV.
They spent millions on the production of class-a propaganda. All the RW mouthpieces have used it to attack and will use this. Not that anything will top Foley and Hastert getting shitcaned.
