I've owned my last GM vehicle. Screw them, the honeymoon is over.
I have owned GM products since the early 1960's and still have three of their products in my garage. I have owned several other brands including a very few foreign makes over the years, but basically I remained a loyal GM man.

Now that they have linked up with that miserable excuse for a human being Sean Hannity the ride is over. I will never buy anything from them again. If they want to use a crackpot hate-spewing idiot like Hannity to hawk their products they can do it without my support. By signing on with him they have basically told me that they don't want anything to do with loyal folks like myself that harbor different views of this old world. He is now the new face of GM.

I also have a bunch of GM items that I've gathered ovr the years that will be going up on eBay soon. I don't want anything to remain around here that can be linked to GM.

And you can be sure my next vehicle will be anything but GM built.

What a sad day when GM takes up with a despicable character like Sean Hannity. I never would have dreamed it could happen. But it did.

1. Come on over to the light
and buy Ford. They make good vehicles, especially trucks. I have had several of them and have had no complaints. In fact, I miss my Ford truck. It may be time for another one to go with the car.

OK, I made up that last one.

Anyway, I'm a loyal American, so I only buy BMW.

Sounds like you don't have it. I always wanted a '68 Chevelle SS. Might just get one here now that I have reached the age for a second childhood.

4. I hope you wrote or called in and told them that.
If not, please do take a deep breath, and calmly but sincerely state what you just did hear. Give them examples of Sean Hannity's "journamalism" . . . people will pay attention.

I'm in the industry(not gm)

6. Write the chair and let him know. I did: [email protected]
I agree 100 percent, and hope others on DU do, too. I bought back-to-back brand new Buicks, but there is principle involved here, no matter how much I want GM to do well. Also boycott Barnes & Noble - A principal sponsor of Rush Limbaugh's web page! They got my last dollar ever more than a year ago. Here is my email to GM:

I have bought multiple new GM cars (mostly Buicks) through the years, but never again. Any of my money going to Sean Hannity's anti-American rants against those who dissent are something none of my money will fund if I can help it. My friend just bought a new 2006 Malibu, and would never have done so under any circumstances if this had come out sooner. Tragic decision, and also disgusting, from a former Detroiter with deep GM ties in the family.

12. Of course! But now they know where this consumer stands
They no doubt weighed the pros and cons, and went with it anyway. I just wanted to let them know there is a price to be paid for that disgusting decision. Will my voice matter? No. Will thousands matter? Only if we speak up together.

Don't count on it. I'm very serious, Fox news is really big in Metro-Detroit for some odd reason. It's a blue state, so it really puzzles me.

26. Detroiter born and raised here.
This has got to be a nationwide campaign; sales in Detroit aren't enough to make more than a tiny, tiny difference. I am sure some article will explain what this idiocy is all about.

You get a better(longer) warranty, and excellent service for anything you need to take your vehicle into the shop for. You also don't need to buy anything to pricey for those advantages. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.

22. 29 years ago, I got my first car; a Honda Civic.
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 09:33 PM by Kierkegaard
I liked the car so well that, until 1988, I'd always owned an Accord or Civic of some kind. Every '2nd' car I'd owned during that time was just not up to the reliability and ergonomic standards of my beloved Hondas. Those makes included BMW, Mercur, Mazda, Ford, Volvo, Nissan, and a few others. There were some nice cars in the bunch, but none that made me want to give up my security blanket.

In 88' I got my first Integra. I loved that car like no other.
For the first time, I felt comfortable without owning a Honda (Well, the Acura is sort of a Honda.) I drove various Acuras for the next 13 years...until I test drove a Lexus. My wife and I both bought one (an RX and an ES) and have been very happy with them for the last 5 years.

In a poor attempt to connect with the topic of this thread, I should say that I spent 10 years in mobile electronic installation, seeing everything from Yugos to Lamborghinis. In all that time, by far the worst built cars I worked on came from GM, Ford and Chrysler, in that order. The Ford Escort and Cadillac Seville were probably the two worst built cars I've ever seen.

So, I too will make do nicely without any American made automobile.

17. Whatever your loyalties
if you are going to buy ANY product with an engine in it buy Honda. I don't care if it's a toy mouse or rocketship if you are into quality, reliability and economy get a Honda. No such thing as American made anyways, only American outsourced.

19. Re American made
"No such thing as American made anyways"

That's fairly true, but there is still such thing as elderly Americans depending on their pensions to live on. I take a lot of things into account when I consider what I'm going to buy for a vehicle.

21. My first car, in college, was (don't laugh), a Ford Pinto wagon.
It was pretty good for a POS, lol, and was actually GREAT in snow. But it really was a POS.

My second car was a Chevy Citation. The POS to put all others to shame. Junked after only 6 years of modest use.

My only other car has been the Honda Accord. It is now 18 years old and still runs great, though age has taken its toll. Whe I get rid of it, I will either get another Honda, or a Toyota.

I sure wish American car companies knew how to make a GREAT, long-lasting, well-made car. But they can't be bothered, I suppose.

27. Yeah, that's the ticket, screw the UAW that rely on us
So pretty soon, we all buy Japanese cars, and there will be no more jobs here at all. Blame * if you want, but we can have a say in whether the good people that work at the big three will have a job or not. We're cutting off our noses (the blue collar workers) to spite our face (GM,Ford management). If all of these fine people are unemployed, they won't be able to purchase goods or services that you fine people provide. Think about it.

30. American car makers are outsourcing.
Some japanese car makers do some parts of assembly, etc., here in the U.S.

It's hard to justify spending tens of thousands of dollars on an inferior product in the age of NAFTA, globalization, and outsourcing.

I wouldn't trade my Toyota for any American made car. If I can ever afford to buy a full-sized pickup truck, though, I'll buy American.

I need at least 3/4 ton to haul my horse trailer, and I need 4wd; I live rurally, and there are miles of deep snow and ice around here in the winter. I would prefer a diesel, for fuel economy. That runs me into the 40,00 - 50,000 range for a new vehicle; a full year's gross salary, plus a little.

I was married for a decade to a UAW worker. I am somewhat familiar with the organizatin, lol.

Dear Ms. xxxxxx,

Thank you for your feedback and comments.

GM is a prominent advertiser in America and to tell our story we advertise across a tremendously wide array of media trying to connect with all customers irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliations.

The current promotion on Sean Hannity's program is not intended to create controversy or support for any political view. Rather, it is designed to generate interest in our world-class lineup of vehicles. Sean Hannity has not been hired as a spokesperson nor is he receiving compensation from GM.

Again, we appreciate your views and thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Sincerely,

General Motors Executive Customer Assistance
