Robert Novak reporting GOP pushed for Foley reelection AFTER emails
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 10:22 AM by LSK
In another stunning development, Robert Novak today reveals in his column - published in PostOpinion on Page 31 - that even after House GOP leaders knew that Foley had written an inappropriate e-mail to a 16-year-old former male page, they were still urging him to seek re-election.

Novak writes, "A member of the House leadership told me that Foley, under continuous political pressure because of his sexual orientation, was considering not seeking a seventh term this year but that Rep. Tom Reynolds, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), talked him into running."

There is always "that guy" on DU that has to post an irrelevant "We're Doomed, the voted is rigged" comment. Congratulations.

15. Hedging his bets for now
He doesn't want to relegated to the back burner and lose his access that he enjoys now. Trying to make some in-roads with a token gesture so that the new Democratic leadership will remember that when they are granting interviews, access, etc.

22. They would do this
so that after the election and Foley won then he would resign in disgrace and then the Republicans can pick another Republican to succeed him? God, they're evil.

27. Fake it till you make it!
I'll take Novak's support anyway we can get it, because his audience is chock full of people who have never heard of DU. I hope he keeps hedging his bets and introducing the chill of reality among some moderates.

Have you noticed Joe Scarborough has been a little less lock-step recently?

Hedge away, opportunistic ass kissers of the * regime. Make my day.

35. Yes
That was my take on the Gannon/Guckert thing. He was a call-boy targeting DC and military-connected people for blackmail. With Foley they get the facts then urge him to run this year -- this might explain how well they control their herd.

36. That can be used in most congressional races against the repugs.
They knew he was playing around with the pages but they still encouraged him to run for office again. They knew and didn't care about his character. They knew and didn't care what happened to the pages. They knew and didn't care if the page's parents would get upset. They knew and said what about the Catholic priests that diddled with the boys? They knew and only told Foley to leave those particular pages alone but didn't tell him to stop it completely.

Republicans elected and continue to support Hastert and their leadership's action over this issue.

As Jay Leno stated in his monologue Foley was turning the pages over or something like that.

Because they just bend the pages over.

Hey Foley, what page are you on?

"Well, isn't that SPECIAL!"

An invitation offered to provide alcohol to a minor at his private residence. What on earth could Foley possibly have had in mind for the rest of the evening's entertainment?
