That means he will likely hang within a week of the verdict.

Rove is good I have to give him that. The DNC may be able to get some help from leakers, well timed book releases, but Rove has power to plan and effect things far beyond Washington.

What are Americans going to be thinking about in November, Woodward's book or Saddam hanging from a noose?

What is the media going to be covering pre-War mistakes or Saddam? The media are whores and have actually done better then I hoped they would in promoting Woodward's book and the intel leaks, but I also know how they will respond to Saddam hanging.

1. We have no right to judge Saddam or punish him
That punishment belongs to the people of Iraq and bush had no business capturing him or killing his sons any more that Saddam would have to come to this country and capture the leaders and have them killed

2. But they're playing up a tired, and ineffective, angle
Saddam was a bad guy. I guess the majority of Americans would agree. But that is accepted, and the country has still grown negative on the invasion/occupation. Seeing the bad guy hang, I don't think, will have the inteded effect. Other than to kill Saddam, of course. I think Americans, and I would hope the media, would ask - was all this worth that?

5. Ha, ha, ha; this is their October surprise?
Really, I expected so much more from them.

They'd have to invade Iran to counter the Foley story. Nobody cares about Saddam anymore.

The Foley story more directly impacts the mid-term elections, since it implicates House GOP leadership, as well. Congressmen who don't speak out against Fat Denny risk being lumped in with him. What's Saddam on a noose got to do with that?

6. Prediction: Saddam will die after verdict. "Natural causes" or...
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 03:12 AM by Poll_Blind
..."suicide". I think, the way things are going in Iraq, if they set a date with the hangman it's going to cause all sorts of hell. There is the possibility that the execution ceremony (which would probably already be very small) would be interrupted and, since living in a Bush-world means kissing reality goodbye, possibly even some group trying to spring him.

I'm thinking "suicide" after the verdict. Notice the quotes if you hadn't before. I'd say "cyanide capsule" because that's how the upper echelon Nazis went and it would make a salacious, final, tie-in for the news pieces about our second-to-most-recent Hitler.

9. Ha! No matter what, they're going to return "guilty". If they don't...
...every Bush administration officials' head will explode simultaneously. They would rather gun down the judge in mid-pronouncement of innocence and have a uniformed marine continue reading the "correct" verdict while the whole mess was broadcast live to the rest of the world than have that happen.

If the unthinkable happens and Saddam goes free and isn't instantly killed by a military vigilante as he's led from the proceedings (shouting "OSWALD!" as he shoots), I am stumped as to where he could retire to.

I mean, the United States is, historically, the "twilight home" for many dictators and war criminals. That's a stumper.

10. They call it the Saddam Trial yet there are six other
Defendants on Trial with him. Isn't there another Trial scheduled for other charges?

12. Bin Laden captured!
Yes, Osama Bin Laden suddenly found and captured shortly before the election may well be Rove's real October surprise. No doubt the sheeple will then applaud Bush and his rubberstamp Congress by voting the whole gang back in.

This is my nightmare but I do not believe it will truly happen. Anyway I certainly hope not.
