Freeper soldier comments on my Cindy Sheehan vid...
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 10:36 AM by Texas Explorer
Got this response on my video of Cindy Sheehan's comments as we dedicated her Crawford Camp Casey land:

Why doesn't she just shut the hell up and go knit something. Me, my friends, and the thousands of young people who are going over to fight and are already over there VOLUNTEERED to go over there. WE VOLUNTEERED knowing there's a chance we may not come home. We VOLUNTEERED to go help give the Iraqi people a chance at seeing a normal life.

I had a kneejerk response to reading this that I've composed. However, wanted to get your reactions.

To me, it's odd that this person would go to liberate the Iraqi people and at the same time say to Cindy "shut the hell up". Does she not have the freedom to speak and isn't his duty to protect our freedoms first?

1. What's this "We" crap that he uses?
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 10:41 AM by roamer65
Since when does he speak for all the other service members? Tell his sorry ass to use "I", rather than "We".

5. Mark Twain had it right
"The only people that have the right to use the word 'we' are royalty, pregnant women and newspaper editors."

2. that's a good approach
I'm kind of steaming at the thought that a woman's proper place is to be knitting something, but that's a bit of a tangent. You hit the most important issue.

3. I have this feeling that there are a lot of brave souls in the
military. Up until the time the first bomb goes off.

4. why does he want to deny her the right to express the very freedoms

6. See, he fights for our freedoms, and he decides when we can use 'em
It's simple!

Best not tell him that, though. His head will explode.

8. Who knows if he's really a soldier?
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 10:59 AM by tabasco
Lots of freeper posters are phonies and claim to be combat vets, war heroes, etc.

This is a republican meme: "They volunteered - fuck 'em!!"

This is probably just a puke poster reciting the meme.

Or a rear-echelon punk who enjoys being a "wartime vet" but shares none of the danger.

There are tens of thousands of soldiers on stop-loss. I do not consider them volunteers.

9. That was what I wondered as well. Not all is as it seems offline but even
more so online where someone could say they're anything they want to and if they're semi-intelligent can convince some that they are what/who they say they are.

11. Short answer to your correspondent
You VOLUNTEERED to serve a lie. Why are you upset with a person who's trying to determine the truth? Isn't your anger more correctly directed at the people who abused your trust, exploited your patriotism, and sent you off to kill and die for their own aggrandizement? Or do you like being lied to?

I am sure that there are those that feel as this person, as misguided as those feelings might be.

13. Don't forget that five years ago there was a rush of volunteer enlistments
Immediately after 9/11 everyone wanted to go kick some ass... in Afgahnistan, you know, Al Quaida HQ, the people who actually attacked us. I pretty sure that the shortest possible enlistment term is two years. Since March 2003 is less than two years from September 2001, alot of the troops currently stuck in Iraq on stop-loss, signed up specifically to get payback for 9/11. It's not their fault that Bush later targeted Iraq, and sent them to go fight an urban war against a country that didn't attack us.

So this "WE VOLUTEERED!!111!!" line is utter Bullshit. They Volunteered to fight Osama and the Taliban, NOT Iraq.

14. Only 2 year service period
was during the draft. You were drafted or volunteered your draft. Either way was 2 years. Enlistment was a minimum of 3 years. Might be 4 now.

15. Sorry, my dad was drafted in the Vietnam era..
I picked up that little nugget from him. Guess it no longer applies. Still, it only further validates my point. Everyone who signed up immediately after 9/11 wanted a piece of Osama, at that time, I don't think anyone was even talking about Iraq as a potential target.

No one could have predicted that Bush would decide to pre-emptively invade another country... in our nations history, it's never happened before. That's why so many of us railed against the idea. The United States of America, up until now, has NEVER started a war. We were never in the buisness of starting wars, it was our job to finish them.

To put it in the Old West terms our dear leader loves so much.. the good guys never draw first.
