Top Marine in Iraq says his mission is not to defeat insurgents
A top American commander in Iraq says U-S-led military efforts are "stifling" the insurgency in a volatile Iraqi province. But a force of 30-thousand troops isn't strong enough to defeat it.

Marine Major General Richard Zilmer says he has enough troops under his command in Fallujah to accomplish what his main mission of training Iraqi security forces.

But in a phone interview with reporters, Zilmer says his mission statement doesn't include a "win." And he says he'd need more troops to do that.

2. Did you see how they lyingly posted the news story?
"Zilmer: US "Stifling" Insurgency" is what my comcast news page blared. But as you read into it, they reveal basically that the US is preparing to SURRENDER Anbar province to the Insurgency! Like OH BY THE WAY......

I cannot wait until we get a real press back. This is beyond disgusting.

to be perpetual. The people who are PROFITING from this particular war have designed it to be that way. Mr. Marine's statement does not surprise me one little bit.

7. Hell, they already are. . .all they have to do is stay in Iraq.
Sooner or later, the US troops have to leave - then the Iraqis declare victory.

8. As the former Vermont Governor Said (not that one)
"The best policy is to declare victory and go home."

Mr. George Aiken, in reference to the Vietnam war

Strange how history repeats itself.
