1. I wonder if the anti-choice people..............
remember that one of the main reasons abortions were legalized in the first place is because people got sick of finding their sisters, daughters and nieces dead from botched abortions!

6. Alcohol used to be illegal everywhere in this country too.
...was called 'Prohibition'.
Bootleggers made money hand over fist...in fact some of the wealthiest families today got their start from Prohibition.

and before anyone gets out the flamethrowers, I am NOT repeat NOT suggesting that people try to profit from the anti-choice stance...it's sad, sick and disgusting and will probably happen anyway because some people are just damn slimeballs and some people
(hello, xtian rightwingers? Reality on the phone for you...) just don't learn from the past.
:banghead:

What I was trying to say before I sidetracked myself...
legislating against something doesn't make it disappear.
Never learn, never learn...
:eyes:

7. I have been out of touch the last few days--what the HELL does cocaine
have to do with reproductive choice?

10. It's goes to the question I've often asked them

Do you want there to be less abortions or do you just want a law against it?

11. I think the OP is trying to make the point...
that legislation does not dictate reality. Just as posting a speed limit does not automatically limit all drivers to that speed (or to use the example in the OP, banning cocaine does not prevent the import and use of it), banning abortions will not prevent them.

But then again, I could be wrong.

12. Cocaine is still freely available, despite it's use
as a non-prescribed drug being illegal.

Abortions wont stop happening just because laws are passed against them.
Rather than eliminating abortion, the anti-choice ass-holes will merely
be eliminating safe abortions.

Outlawing abortion is murder.

13. But there is less cocaine use than there would be if cocaine were legal
Prohibition was a failure not because it didn't cut alcohol use, it certainly did, it was a failure because it engendered violent people to compete to supply alcohol to the people who still drank. Given the special skills needed to perform abortions it is highly unlikely gangs will become involved in providing them.

14. Most people don`t relize making something illegal
doesn`t stop people from doing it or passing a law forcing something doesn`t insure a person will do that either. Most people can think for themselves and will do what they want to anyway.
