If you could invent a weapon, what would it look like?
How about a weapon that could use the most sophisticated technology to shoot missiles out of the air or to re-program them in midflight to where they would turn around and return to the very spot they were sent from? Or one that could shoot down the airplanes and bombers as soon as they set off with their payload of destruction? Would that be a solution to most of the war going on now? Then some brilliant war tactician could invent an anti-anti missile missile ??

3. I would invent one that made people lose the will to fight
and start to care for their fellow living beings. Sort of like that Steven King story about the water that made everyone lose their aggressiveness, but without the Alzheimer's like effects....

9. A Kill-O-Zap:
"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with.'"

11. It would be a vaporizer that would remove certain people who are
running the country into the ground. It wouldn't leave any nasty residue either, and would make the immediate area smell suddenly like a breath of fresh air.

12. If I could invent a weapon, it would be cool looking, like the Phazers
(sp?) used in Star Trek, the original TV show, not the movies. When someone is hit with one, they lose all anger, they lose the desire for violence, and they can no longer tell lies, only the truth. And it would not harm people in any way, just make them nice and loving toward themselves and others.

That would be the ultimate weapon! How much do you think the defense companies would pay to keep it off the market?

15. A machine type device
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 10:56 AM by NoMoreMyths
It would go into every home and office. It would contain all your personal information, even your thoughts. It could process more amounts of information as it evolves. It would all be connected into one giant organism. You wouldn't be able to stop the free flow, nor the free control, of information. You couldn't live without it. You'd want to throw it out the window, since it would be fairly easy to break(which is the true genius of it), but you just couldn't do it. You'd miss it. You would be it, it would be you.

21. Space Based Laser Guided Peep Gun...
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:06 AM by Ioo
I think that it would orbit the earth and shoot giant yellow peeps (Red and Green Ones at x-mas) based on a command, it would hone in on the laser "Paint" and would fire!

The peep would traval at mock 8 and would liquify as it enters the earth's apms...

It would then shower onto the target (now Mock 4) a giant blob of flaming marshmellow!

Cost...

R&D 34 Billion
Launch 18 Billion (12 Peeps)
Reload Mission 3 Billion (Also for the x-mas changing of the Peeps...)

DONE!

26. I would invent a weapon that detected the specific brain wave related
to violent behavior, and sent a return wave immediately that paralyzed the person about to commit the violence. So when the pres., or PM, or PsychoJoe down the street decided they needed to kill a bunch of folks, they'd fall to the ground unable to move and need assistance immediately.

It could be done - Star Trek Future :)

30. A cold bomb
I can't begin to imagine how we might do it, thank the gods.
All of our weapons are combustion or detonation based.
They are exothermic, that is they emit energy.
An endothermic weapon would absorb energy from the environment.
You would trigger a blob of something that created liquid oxygen temperatures over a few kilometers radius.
It would be infinitely better than a dirty, messy, neutron bomb.

31. Laser Cartridges
This one allows us to fire laser bolts out of standard firearms.
Imagine , if you will, a cartridge.
There is no solid bullet.
Down the center of the cartridge is a one shot core that lases in some cool color when stimulated.
Around the core is the propellant. This needs to generate enough light to produce a laser bolt. And it needs to generate enough gas to drive the weapons feed mechanism.
Trigger is pulled, 'powder' flares, core lases and a nice bolt of laser energy goes out the barrel.
It even litters the scene with brass, just like grandpa's tommy gun.
Not revolutionary, perhaps, but it does give us personal energy weapons!
