Disturbing Pronouncements From Condi and Dubya...
I keep thinking about Bush's comments in describing the turmoil in Iraq and the Middle East as an "opportunity". Then, on Meet the Press this morning, Condi Rice expanded on those thoughts somewhat. Who really thinks in this way? Is it something a rational and sane person might say? I can imagine similar discussions may have taken place in Hitler's bunker?

Condi framed it a little differently but still in a similar context. Paraphrasing, she said that progress comes with great sacrifice sometimes. As if tens of thousands more people die and we drag the world right up to the edge of a World War, then it is all for the better. Because in the long run, the Middle East will have a "lasting" peace. I must ask the question: Are crazy people in charge?

3. Their long-term vision....
...is to put governments in place that they can control, and bulldoze over anyone that doesn't submit.

11. but don't blame bush...
even here at DU i see we honour the busheviks by using their own niks - 'jeb' for the yuppie punk john ellis bush, 'dubya' or an asterick, for the freakboor dubia, and so on.....regan is 'st reagan' and cheney is 'darth cheney, as if the rapepukes aren't giddy with pleasure enough at all the fukkin killing.....
why not just admit it: we love bush, we love the freedom from responsibility, the chaos of
rape-ublicanism, the wondrous totality of this let's pretend world. we can now bbq our steaks on the sidewalks :)

6. I find those comments arrogant...
It's one thing to say that progress comes with sacrifice, if YOU are the one making the sacrifice and it's YOUR decision to proceed down that road.

But how dare any country make that decision for another country, by force, knowing the sacrifice will be their citizens?

The arrogance of some in the US galls me sometimes. How about let them make their own decisions and bring about their own change if that's what they desire? Certainly, Iraqi citizens are no better off today than they were under Saddam. Do you see Iraq thanking the US for it's "help"?

galls a lot of us in the US. I agree that people should make their own decisions. I hate that crap about how the Middle East is going through "growing pangs". I gotta pang for her! :puke:

On edit: There are some real crazy m*f*ers in charge...unfortunately....

7. She forgets that a sacrifice is usually a voluntary forfeiture or
tender, not a victimization.

8. Excellent point.
She herself doesn't seem to be making any sacrifices whatsoever.

10. "Are crazy people in charge?"
Yes.

If the concept of crazy" has any meaning, these people are surely crazy.

I think nothing matters to them but the dictates of their own narrow, short-term self-interests. They are parasites, they are cancers, and they will end up killing their host. That host is Gaia, home to us all.

Unfortunately, they are merely the most visible agents of a much larger craziness. Just look at the things they stand for. Denial of scientific findings so that a few might profit from poisoning the biosphere for a while longer. Continuing an insane war, playing a power game that cannot be won. Raining death and destruction in every direction, claiming they are working for peace. Sabotaging stem cell research, blocking alternative energy research, dooming us to global warming....

Yes. Crazy people are in charge.

13. There are people..
... with a true zealot's "optimism" who really make me ill. If, in your personal life, you lose a leg and find a way to deal with it that involves a certain amount of denial, well I'm cool with that.

If you are running a country or a company and your absurd optimism always involves other people losing their legs and you having the boldness and foresight to be optimistic about it, well fuck you.
