Unbelievable LTTE today in USAToday. You have to read it to believe it.

DISPEL MYTH OF REPUBLICAN RACISM

USA TODAY said the Republican Party began its march from the political wilderness by appealing to Southern whites angry that Democrats had ended segregation. I share a different view.

The Republican Party was created in 1854 as a response by opponents of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which would have allowed the expansion of slavery. Passing the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery was one of the party's major platforms during the 1860s. Abraham Lincoln, who decreed the Emancipation Proclamation, was a Republican.

It is also a myth that African-Americans have traditionally supported the Democratic Party. Democrats won the African American vote in the 1930s with Franklin Roosevelt's promise of social programs and transfers of wealth. Their commitment to the Democratic Party was solidified with Lyndon Johnson's support of civil rights legislation.

Each party has supported African-Americans in the past and continues to back them today. Republicans will generally support freedom and equality for all, regardless of color. It was, in fact, conservative Justice John Harlan who declared that "our Constitution is colorblind." Democrats are more willing to support acts that prop up minorities in order to amend for the past. Thus, they will be more likely to support affirmative action, quotas and racially based scholarships.

Where does one begin? What HAS the Republican party done for minorities since 1860? Absolutely nothing. So why do they keep resurrecting the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, who, by the way, also said, "Tell the people the facts and the country will be safe." The Republican party jumped the shark on Lincolnian principles a long time ago, so they should stop using him since the man has been dead for over 100 years and was buried along with the last vestiges of compassion mustered in that party.

Second, for God's sake, the Democratic Party's support of Affirmative Action and other programs that give minorities a chance, is not done just to amend for the past, but to amend for the present & constant prejudicial preferences in the business world, which create economic inequities for minority races & cultures in this country. It's the cronyism, stupid! a.k.a. Affirmative Access.

1. argh! up is down, war is peace, etc, etc
these pukes are freakin crazy--

and for this comment about dems: "they will be more likely to support affirmative action, quotas and racially based scholarships" to be made is obviously with the intent to stir the pot of racism

why don't these assholes just say: "we're not prejudiced. we're *so* not prejudiced that we don't believe in giving any special treatment to anyone based on race--that's how colorblind we are."

what a complete crock of shit!
