My Mother in Law is scared and mad as hell right now
She thinks a draft is coming and her grandsons will be swept up in it, she read where the chimperor* wants more troops in Baghdad, she believes it means they will be fresh meat from here, they say they will draw from other parts of Iraq, but she doesn't believe it.

The thing is she's not alone in her thinking and her fear, there is alot of talk here, mostly like hers scared and a growing awareness that this isn't right and that no good can come out of this.

People are looking around, they're paying out the nose to get to work, it's costing more for everything, the world is a scary place right now.
She like many others here aren't political, but she's asking questions, and not liking the answers, if we can hold out for the next three months, there people are going to be a tidal wave of change heading for the piggies.

1. It's time for us to start pressing the Chimperor's supporters to go
sign up and sign their kids up for the Bush*-Cheney Wars of the World. They wanted this crap and think it is worthwhile. They should go fight it. ALot of folks who previously would be disqualified due to age will now be acceptable due to recent changes.

2. There is a strong possibility after the election
Before the election, he'd be ensuring a Democratic Victory. That said, it woudln't hurt to suggest that if the Republicans hold on to both houses, a draft is pretty likely.

3. I think that move
would guarantee the gop permanent minority status. I think they are headed in that direction anyway. If their only solution to Iraq is the draft they all would be better off resigning and heading to Bora Bora to hang out with Ken Lay.

4. Over 50% of the population was under 15
when we bombed Iraq in 2003. After all this mayhem and murder, I am sure there are very few youths to come over to our side in Iraq. If any join, they learn whatever we have to teach, then they strip off their uniforms and run like hell to protect their homes. And they are just teenagers.

6. Like during Vietnam... the first thing that will happen is that...
judges will start offering violent criminals the option of jail or Iraq. They will choose Iraq and then..... murderers, thieves and rapists will be turned loose on the Iraqi people.

I know that most of our troops are honorable folks.... who just want to come home alive. But haven't the Iraqis had enough of the OTHER sort?

7. She's average America
She doesn't really notice anything until they're affecting her, the thing is if she is waking up, it's not going to bode well for the reptiles this fall, and there isn't anything they can do to make things better.
This is coming down to all or nothing, they'll either die or we as a country will.

8. they will not call for a draft
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 08:58 AM by alyce douglas
once they do that people will be out in the streets, we have cheney and rumsfeld at the helm of this bloodshed. They will keep on supplying bombs to Israel or whoever to continue their reign of terror. Cheney is a evil man, there is a very dark side to this evil man.

11. No, they'll have military personel ask for more soldiers...
they'll go to congress, and congress will have to re-instate the draft... that congress will be majority democrat at that point (having passed the mid-term elections), and repugs will rule the world in 08 again because we will be knee deep in war and chaos.

12. You have great certainty
I admire a person who is certain in uncertain times. Especially when she is incorrect. Why do you think the Selective Service Boards have been reconstituted and are ready to go? Certainly not just as na exercise. The military is depleted as is the treasury, a sure way to obtain cheap manpower is to induct it. They simply cannot run on Category 4 recruits, they need a more representative selection of the population. By this time next year, young people pulled over for a traffic stop had best have their draft card.

You are correct, it surely will energize people to hit the streets as it did in the sixties. But the military machine will once again be fed, just as it was in the time of Vietnam. There are a many here who can attest to the effectiveness of those letters from the President. "Greetings..."

14. I don't think people will be out in the streets, at least not right away
what happened with Viet Nam was closely watched by the founders of the neocon movement. They know that if they do a major escalation and call for a draft, people will go ape-shit.

this time will be very very different. First there will be several "situations" in the middle east to crank up the propaganda engine.

Then there will be several small incidences here in the states, followed by a big one.

(all this starts on nov 8th, after they steal another election)

These above things will have the nation worried and foaming at the mouth for some action.

A skills draft will be enacted. Followed shortly there after by a general draft of men and women between the ages of 18 and 24.

Nothing about the neo-con pricks is done in a big fashion, other than bombing people, shock and awe anyone?, they will creep in with this bullshit, under our noses and before you can say quartering troops in private homes, they will have gotten away with it.

Unless something dramatic happens november 7th and the Dems take back either one or both, the future of the United States of America will be written in blood upon the stones of our foundation.

Will something be done if they steal another election? doubtful, other than protest marches and some angry citizens, the neo-cons have figured out a very effective way to neuter the anti-war movement. they will have their talking head propaganda MSM machine decide the election before it's over, this is so the mouth breather pop will fall in lock step.

15. Tell her the history of the draft-rumor-mongering.
We've been on the verge of a draft for 3 years now. It's been oft predicted.

Even the routine replenishing of the of the Selective Service committee volunteer pool, something in existence since the late '70s, was cause for a bit of panic among those that like fear, and an issue among those that like to spread fear. It was all the evidence they needed to justify the fear.

Fear is counterproductive, esp. when based on weak premises.
