".....that's what I believe......"
How many times have we heard George W Bush say that? As if when he "believes" it, then there can be no doubt that it is correct? That should be a red flag for every American whenever he opens his piehole and utters those words. "I believe that democracy in Iraq will spread democracy and freedom over the entire Middle East", he says. Even as war and terror spread deeper and deeper into those countries. "I believe if you give people more of their own money, they will invest and our economy will grow and create more jobs", he proclaims. Even as our nation sinks deeper into bankruptcy and debt. Whenever George W Bush "believes" something, it is wise to run the other direction. Maybe it's too late to issue that warning now?

1. "Believe" is code
It's a signal to the knuckle-walking, mouth-breathing, Megachurch-going "faithful" that he's not an "intellectual;" that he lives by "faith" just like them.

It's all quite deliberate.

I've been trying to exorcise "believe" from my vocabulary for years. That word only means that a person is ignorant and unable to form an opinion based upon reason and actual knowledge.

"Believe" may well be the most deadly word in the English language.

3. You are so correct
If I said "I believe the sky is purple with pink polkadots" it would hardly win any debating points, but in human history we have given more credence to beliefs over facts. Burns us in the ass every time.

5. Here's a few:
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 08:30 AM by GrpCaptMandrake
"I believe that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction."

"I believe that there will be democracy in Iraq."

"I believe that embryos are babies."

"I believe that we are in the End Times."

"I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows." (I really hate that one. If it were true, the flowers would rule the world!)

4. A leader is supposed to do what is RIGHT, regardless if he believes it
He shows the depth of his ignorance every time he opens his mouth. EVERY TIME!
