Why they're impeding stem cell research.
Most probably know this, I just thought I'd repeat it so we're all on the same page.

There is NO GOOD REASON.

It's like keeping women from getting anti-cancer vaccines because it throws a kink in "pro-abstinence education."

The reason is basically this: they want to outlaw abortion. Including emergency contraception. That's not even abortion, just a couple of cells. If they can stop this, maybe, just maybe they can stop emergency contraception and abortion.

And if they stop abortion, their base would be happy. So basically, they're screwing over sick people to garner a handful of votes.

That's it.

Next on the chopping block- treatment for diabetes. Because insulin comes from human insulin genes genetically engineered into microorganisms. And that makes baby jesus cry.

And don't let anybody give you any guff about "they're not banning stem cell treatment, just government funding blahblahblahblahblah." Bullshit. By impeding in research that's exactly what they're doing.

1. Not entirely correct...
There is one reason.

PROFIT.

This is a stall tactic while they figure out a way to MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT.

Randi Rhodes was dead on this afternoon when she suggested that this whole thing is a ruse, while they plot a strategy to figure out a way to make some cash out of those petri dishes that are being tossed in the trash.

Stems cells are going to be more valuable than oil, and don't you think that they know that?
Don't you think that they know that you would PAY anything if you knew you could be cured of an incurable disease?

They will figure out a way to move this into the private sector so any research that takes place reaps PROFITS.

You really think they are going to PAY for the research and just GIVE IT AWAY?

That's not the 'mericun way!

They may say it's MURDER...but who makes more money out of MURDER than THESE guys?

Just a thought, but with these guys it's ALWAYS about the money.

2. My theory: If research is restricted, then there will still be progress
but anything that is learned from it and any cures that are developed will be so rare and therefore so expensive that only the richest will be able to benifit.

3. I think that the bottom line is simply that the US is excluding itself
form participating in stem cell research, thereby leaving it wide open for the rest of the world. There will be breakthroughs, there will be new cures, there will be miracles of medical science in the relatively near future. It's just that none of them will be American. Maybe it's actually better that way; maybe the rest of the world will be less greedy about extracting the last possible dime (or Euro or yen) of profit from what they produce.
