Vicious anger, hate, intolerance and violence are at the very core of the hearts of the "conservatives". Apparently, at least in most cases, if they happen to claim to be Christian... they take on this religious veil as a shield (camoflage?) or perhaps they do feel some small guilt or recognize the evil in their hearts and have at least made this tiny gesture (affirming belief in Jesus) as a desperate attempt to reign in the evil in their hearts (and it may have worked to some degree--at least before Politics was intentionally infused into their Churches). Alas, in any case, there can be no doubt... Their's is plainly an aggressive, single-minded, never satisfied until their 'enemies' are dead (and the more violently their end, the better) kind of ideology.
While ours is much more peaceful, gentle, easy-going--and this is to our serious disadvantage. Indeed, even among the growing number of politically angry/distressed among us, the biggest expression is frustration. Many of us are feeling great emotion, but we simply won't devolve into the violent, driven (maniacal) kind of storm troopers the other side has become. Worse than the fact that our peaceful, democratic, consensus-seeking natures leave us at a disadvantage in many ways, is the fact that when faced with such enormous levels of ugliness and irrationality we're currently faced with, our own anger and frustration are mostly controlled, suppressed and internalized. Responding that way, in many cases just results in our suffering the effects of stress and harms our health.
Thus it has always been. Throughout history there has always existed a struggle between Good and Bad (one is tempted to use the word 'Evil'; it fits well enough--but we don't need the religious connotations--and Christianity has nothing to do with it). It's the same now, Good versus Bad--though it's sometimes not easy to tell which is which since those acting for the Bad side rely heavily on lies, advertising/image consultants, and false speech. Indeed, we even call "them" by the word "conservative" when the correct meaning of the word, as well as the original political meaning, wasn't such that it meant or identified the Bad. We should call them by something that honesly and openly identifies their ugly, hateful, deceptive natures, beliefs/ideology. Though, admittedly, it would sound a little silly to say something like "the Democrats today were further oppressed by the Forces of Darkness", but to call them "Conservatives" is too kind and misleading.
If any Democrat or liberal-minded person exists that hasn't by now realized the absolute totaltiarian, all or nothing, kill the enemy, all out war that the 'forces of evil', otherwise known as Republicans, Conservatives, Religious Right, Right-Wing--we need to make sure they realize the urgency and nature of politics today. We are finally, after many years, going to have to fight for our freedoms and for what's good in the world, or it's all going to be destroyed. Once upon a time, mankind numbered less than a couple of thousand million people and they were technologically backward. At such times, there was nothing human-kind could do that would literally destroy the Earth. Alas, at more than six and a half billion, nuclear capable, combustion engine equipped, technologically relatively advanced, humans really can destroy the Earth--at least strip it free of most forms of life--including, especially, themselves. At this critical point in history, the reckless type of humans have taken total power in the most powerful nation on earth. If we don't dethrone them and energetically pursue doing the right things, everything is going to change so much for the worse--we won't be able to recognize it. Darfur will seem commonplace--perhaps even like a paradise.
It's our turn to fight for what's right (explicitly without reference to "The Right"). Our turn, given the world's population and the strain on our very planet, may well be the most important battle in history. We either win or everyone loses.
