CNN Europe - sanitized news (no US politics visible)
OK. I tried to go to this CNN poll to vote, but didn't see it. Here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=163425&mesg_id=164514

The CNN doesn't have a single news piece from the US internal politics on it's website for Yorop.

Here are the top headlines from what we see in Europe about the US (this is from the US section of ..whatever CNN version it is I have)

Teen murder suspects caught after jailbreak

MORE NEWS
• Oregon assisted suicide law upheld
• Hostage-taking couple surrender
• Third teen arrested after homeless beatings
• West Virginia miner leaves intensive care
• Ford hospitalized for pneumonia |

Woman dies after nursing home evacuation
Man accused of killing ex-girlfriend arrested
Woman says police 'humiliated, tortured' her
Attorney dies after car plunges into harbor
Guardian Angels to tour, recruit
Police search for suspect in fatal hit-and-run
Wife: Ruling a 'turning point' for convicted killer
Commuters witness 'horrific' suicide scene

And so on.
It is the frontpage on this link on my PC in the writing moment:
http://edition.cnn.com/US/

There is not a trace of US internal politics on this whole site

1. Better that
Than the wholesale misinformation and deception that they perpetrate on the American people.
stateside viewers.

Besides, yhey wouldn't buy into it, anyway- and imagine what they'd think if they got a daily earful from the fundies and the far fight? Now that would really be great for America's image.

2. To be fair
CNN Europe is an absolute joke.

It appeared a while back as a guest channel courtesy of my cable provider. 5 minute ad breaks every time a presenter pauses for breath, massively over-long promotional ads for news and upcoming specials.

In the hour or so that I spent watching it I must have seen about 15 minutes worth of actual news content. Even Sky News (News International's news channel here, Faux News equivalent) looked good in contrast.

3. Reads like local news...
It could be that US domestic politics, especially at the federal level, takes too much 'context' and 'definitions' to explain individual news items properly.

Like for example, how would one try to convey a news story about Al Gore's speech to a foreign audience? It's not really relevent outside of US domestic politics and it would take far more time to explain, than report.

If you notice, none of those news items really need context or even a basic understanding of how America or its political system works.

The Media deals in superficiality all the time with it's information products

4. Yes, you probably must follow it over time
To get a meaning and context.

The US media is very influential on what European media writes about the US. Especially the Norw. tabloids, they're very superficial about US politics.
They did bring up Al Gore's speech, though. Maybe they read the DU now, I've flagged this board pretty regularly on Norw. sites as the place to go if you want to know what's going on ;-)
