I don't know if you saw my Independence Day photos, but here is a picture of one our Democratic candidates for Don Young's house seat, Diane Benson, leading the parade with her son who had both his legs blown off by an IED last year. I've heard her speak several times, and she is very critical of **'s war effort. I don't know how much of a chance she has against old Don, who's been down there for over 30 years now, but I'm sure going to be supporting her.



Anchorage just recently re-elected our very popular Democratic mayor, Mark Begich, son of Nick Begich - whose House seat ironically Don Young was appointed to when Rep. Begich was killed in a plane crash in 1972. The gubernatorial election is also looking good for Democrats -- Frank Murkowski is extremely unpopular, even among Republicans, and is not likely to make it out of the primary. Neither of his Republican opponents is terrible, but of course we want Tony Knowles to win.

Probably more information than you wanted, but I always like to take the opportunity to point out that Alaska is not as scarlet red as people down south like to think.
