My 12-year-old just cussed out CBS News

They were "reporting" how Exxon and other oil giants make record profits while holding offshore oil leases that should pay royalties back to the U.S., but don't.

"No one is sure how this happened, but one person claims it happened in the Clinton years."

Even my kid was disgusted.

This "somebody said" shit is not journalism. Even a 12-year-old can see that.

Here's a clue for CBS' vapid sales crew, and it took me - a dumbass in the hills of Tennessee - 52.3 seconds to find out that oil companies received the right to drill offshore FOR FREE because Congress passed the Deepwater Royalty Relief Act of 1995; it was revised in 2000 and is up for renewal perhaps. ( I was in the next room listening while I found real news here!)

Here are some links for the sales boys and girls at CBS, in case they'd like to, you know, actually research anything they report rather than winking at us as they "make up shit." ( the latter three words came out of my boy's mouth. I'm gonna have to nip this in the bid....;) )

I turned on the TV cuz of the storms near here, but screw it. I'll watch the damned sky instead.

1. "No one is sure how this happened"???
Isn't CBS supposed to be, uh, a NEWS station? You know, that does research and stuff like that? Unfreakingbelievable.

4. We need a propaganda law that states that deliberately
reporting biased and untruthful news stories can bring big fines and/or the shutting down of such news sources. They do this to bars for serving minors and drunks. Why not treat news outlets the same way?

5. Great idea. Would you start a thread on this?
Deserves more scrutiny and debate.

10. Maybe tomorrow, but you run with it if you like.
You might be able to frame it better than me anyway.

8. BUT FAUX won a case that said they could say anything they want
it does not have to be true.

Some reporters for FAUX did an expose that FAUX twisted (I think that's the story). The reporters sued b/c FAUX lied; the court (think it was federal) said networks can say anything they want; it does not have to be true.

Does any DUer have a more thorough take on this??????

11. That's why we need some laws covering this. Apparently
there aren't very many right right now. I know this gets caught up in the First Ammendment rights too but certainly there has to be a legal way to keep lies and distortions off of venues that are supposed to inform the public.

9. I agree
Watching CBS - or any news these days - is like watching a production put on by second graders. And that's an insult to the second graders, I know.

I was thinking they must be trying to prepare us for Katie, too. Go ahead and get REALLY shallow and rely on innuendo and half-truths to prepare us.

Late gettting back. Trying to spruce up the kitchen with a depleted well. It's just not fun.

I think I'm gonna go out under the smokey crescent moon and do a rain dance myself!

Hope you have fun.

17. Saw The Same Thing Too
And I was floored. Can\t those morons figure out who's controlled Congress for the past 12 years?

And the sad thing is that CBS is still head and shoulders above the other two nightly noozecasts.
