Give Islamists a chance, says top UN official
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?xfile=data/middleeast/2006/June/middleeast_June567.xml§ion=middleeast&col=

VIENNA - Islamists should be given a chance to govern, Egypt’s Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (Unescwa), Marvat Tallawy, said on Tuesday.

The process of elections and democracy should not be stopped ”because we’re afraid of the result,” she said. Whether it was the Muslim Brotherhood or Hamas - “Give them the chance to govern!”.

If the same group was always in government, there would only be more corruption, she pointed out in the newspaper Die Presse. snip

Asked about United States President George W. Bush’s project to bring democracy to the Middle East, also by means of the Iraq war, she said that democracy must come from within and could not be imposed from without.

3. Don't be so quick to judge
June 2006, Brussels -- The European Union joined US, UK, UN, and welcomed Monday the agreement reached between the rivaling factions of Somalia in Khartoum, Sudan last week ( 22 June 2006).The EU, in a statement, congratulated both the Arab League and the Sudanese government for facilitating the talks and urged the Transition Federal Institutions and the Union of Islamic Courts to "sincerely and urgently implement this agreement by engaging in meaningful dialogue in pursuit of a political solution." The EU reaffirmed its readiness to provide political and material support to the dialogue process. With that, all the power houses of the international community have welcomed the somali peace deal, commended the League of Arab States for a job well done, and congratulated the Sudanese President for his successful efforts.

4. interesting article in today's LA times about this new gang
taking over there. How they raided and shut down locations showing the world cup soccer matches and murdered one of the people
running the shows (beat him to death with rifle butts), imprisoned many other viewers. Dont know about you but I cannot wait for that kind of group to take over California...NOT.

as one somali was quoted, just new people wearing the same old shirt (refering to the sharia imposers vs the warlords).
