"Paris Hilton" tax cut passes. Minimum wage increase shot down.
Listening to the car radio this morning, I heard that the house of representatives has passed a cut on the estate tax. They also blocked any raise to the minimum wage. It hasn't been passed in the senate yet, but with the thugs in control there too, what do you think will happen?

Is there ever again going to be one single day on which the Republicans aren't busy destroying what we used to call our country? They're always ready to lay out a huge trough for those who don't need it and invite them to bury their snouts in it. But if you're working two or three jobs to survive, fuck ya. Die.

How can anyone who possesses anything close to a conscience ever cast a vote for these vermin? And how the Jesus freaks justify this as "Christianity" is beyond my comprehension.

The Republican party is a disease that should be banned the way Germany banned the National Socialist Party (Nazis).

1. K&R- Paper ballots and Hand counts NOW!!! Democracy NOW!!!
they wouldn't be doing this if they thought that they would actually be held accountable at the polls. They know that their fraWdulent elections allow such vile policy to be enacted without repercussion.

4. Just heard this on the radio this morning. Your post reminded me...

TRACY CHAPMAN
REVOLUTION

Don't you know, talking about a revolution
(sounds like a whisper)
Don't you know, talking about a revolution
(sounds like a whispers)
While we're standing in the welfare line
Crying in the doorstep of those armies of Salvation
Wasting time, in the unemployment line
Sitting around, waiting for a promotion

Don't know know, talking about a Revolution
(sounds like a whisper)
Poor people going rise up, and get their share
Poor people going rise up, and take what's theirs

Don't you know you better run run run run run run run run
All of a sudden you better run run run run run run run run
'Cos finally the tables, are starting to turn,
Talking about a revolution
And finally the tables are starting to turn
Talking about a Revolution
Talking about a Revolution

While we're standing in the welfare line
Crying in the doorstep of those armies of Salvation
Wasting time, in the unemployment line
Sitting around, waiting for a promotion

Don't you know you better run run run run run run run run
All of a sudden you better run run run run run run run run
'Cos finally the tables, are starting to turn,
Talking about a revolution
And finally the tables are starting to turn
Talking about a Revolution
Talking about a Revolution

6. Not to mention they voted themselves a raise and
take more vacation time then the "Do Nothing" congress. All I can say is they sure must have a strangle hold on the rigged elections or American voters are dumber than dirt.

7. The poorer you make them, the more their sons and daughters have to sign
up for active duty to feed themselves and their families.
Take away jobs and income and they'll come running!

These folks need to GO!!!!

9. Um, you do know that the democrats filibustered the estate tax
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00164

There's the vote - it didn't pass filibuster. Last time I checked you need senate and house to support the bill

10. Another major defeat in the "class war"
Say goodbye to the America of your parents. We're truly in uncharted waters now.

This will further hasten the demise of the middle class and establish the rich as the source of all meaningful power.

I'm reminded of something that Mike Malloy said and I'm paraphasing here, "There are only three "boxes" that determine true freedom, in this order - Soap. Ballot. Ammunition."

in my morning rag, there can be no doubt that they no longer even pretend to represent us anymore and I'm not sure with a vote margin like that if Democratic control would even matter anymore. 43 on our supposed side voted for this crap again. http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll315.xml

Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 10:32 AM by depakid
will just magically stop voting with the far right- it's not going to happen.

The sooner the party realizes that and target them- and targets them, cut off their funding, etc., the sooner they'll regain some relevancy in national politics.

Until then, they'll keep right on losing.

12. Just a couple of notes
Paris Hilton appears to be on track to make more money on her own than she will ever get from an inheritance, she may already have made more.

I strongly disagree with the minimum wage not being raised, but I could really care less about the estate tax.

As to the last part of your post, the Republican party may be wrong on most issues, but dissent is essential in a democracy, to ban them would be the greatest tradgedy we could perform on this country.

13. Cutting the estate tax is a tax on the poor and middle class.
The unearned monies not paid in by the super-rich have to be made up somewhere, and that somewhere will be us. So it continues, the rich get richer and the poor get pissed on.

As for Paris Hilton, if she is going to earn real money for herself, why does she need tax breaks on money that was (or will be) gifted to her through inheritance? If someone walks up to you on the street and hands you a hundred dollars are you going to bitch because they didn't give you two hundred?

That's what the estate tax cut is - rich people bitching because they aren't getting enough unearned money. It is even less legitimate than invested income -- with investments they may make good or bad choices, they could earn less than projected or even lose money. But inheritance is purely unearned, free money, and the estate tax applies to only what? the top 5%? It doesn't affect the family farm, the family business (unless, of course, your family is named Walton).

The only people who benefit from the tax cut are those who, in truth, would never notice that they got a tax cut. And, of course, the politicians they buy with that extra money.

18. "... the Republican party may be wrong on most issues ..."
Yeah, wrong on issues like shredding the constitution, ignoring laws passed by congress, leaving a city full of people to drown, murdering perhaps as many as 100,000 Iraqis who had nothing to do with 9/11, lying to us on a minute by minute basis, stealing elections, war profiteering, betraying rules of civilization such as the Geneva Conventions, torture, spitting on every ally we've ever had in the world, and treating our dead and wounded service people like dog shit. Well, that's just the short version.

"Wrong on most issues???" The Republican party is a vast criminal enterprise that is drenched in blood. They have done so much damage to our freedoms and our democracy that it will take decades to get us back to where we were just six short years ago.

Enjoy your stay here. My guess is it will be rather short.

20. As a moderate...
I can see that you and I won't agree on much.

As to why you think my stay here will be short, I can speculate only two things:

1. You think I won't be able to tolerate extreme views.
2. I will be banned because I don't have extreme views.

Which is it?

25. Well, I have no idea what your third option is....
nor do I really care.

I see a lot of intolerance for a moderate stance and that is fine with me. I won't try to temper your enthusiasm you have against Republicans because if its your views they are just as valid as mine.

The only view I really care to criticize of yours are when they are in regards to myself. If you are going to make speculations on my life, by all means just make them, don't try to be vague and hide behind your ego.

24. I'm not saying that..
The estate tax isn't a valid issue for you to be concerned about, its just something I'm not really focusing on at the time.

There are so many issues I like to focus on as a problem at any given time, if you see the Estate tax as an issue you need to worry about, than by all means speak your peace and I'll listen.
