When it comes to fillabuster I'm in wait and see mode
The reason:

Let's assume for a minute that the Democrats really are planning a fillabuster. What good would it do them, in any way, shape or form, to start talking about it now? It would let the Repubs know of our strategy and let the other side roll out a huge campaign to make us look bad. The coverage would be about all the Republicans complaining about how the minority party was "subverting the will of the people" and "defying the President" etc. If we surprise them, at least they won't have time to do that for so long.

Furthermore, if I were Harry Reid or Dick Durbin, I would realize that for a fillabuster I'd need the votes of soft-liners like Ben Nelson, who could possibly be pressured to abandon my effort by such a protracted media and PR anti-fillabuster campaign. On the other end, our leadership may be pressuring some Republicans like Chaffee, Snowe and Collins to join us. Announcing a fillabuster now would allow the Republicans to get to these moderates quickly with threats or promises about funding etc. If I were them, I'd play things close to my vest both the fool the other side and keep my own team in line.

So all this stuff about Feinstein saying "no fillabuster" doesn't bother me, at least not right now. I'll just wait and see what happens, and put my faith in Reid who's done a good job so far.

2. You're right, though I wouldn't "wait." It's still best to put...
...the pressure on and demand one. Call and write your Senators!!

4. Me too
Without public support a filibuster is a tough sell. Better we win elections.

6. I really think you are wrong
The Feinstein's and the Nelson's of "our" party will not support a fillabuster. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't see Alito being stopped.

7. Since Adolf Bush was "elected" the second time I've ben waiting for the US
opposition to do something, anything at all. Nothing has been happening, some guys like Reid excepted. In Germany we hardly ever even read about the Democrats...
But I do cross my fingers for you *sigh*

10. I'm not going to
Whether or not they fillabuster won't make a difference. Bush will keep nominating people who he knows are unacceptable until the Democrats get blasted by the media enough for being "obstructionist" that they're forced to back down. All we can do is play for time and hope to pick up some seats this November.
