Paul Begala on CNN: Bush has never been above 50% his second term...
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 03:52 PM by DeepModem Mom
Bill Clinton was never below 50% his second term.

Responding to Wolf Blitzer's question about Bush's poll "up-tick" of one point.

ON EDIT: Wolf apparently had to check on Begala's statement re. Clinton, to be sure of its accuracy. His researchers found that, indeed, Clinton had approval numbers in the sixties during the Monica scandal, and his numbers went up into the seventies at the height of the impeachment controversy.

2. Yeah it is kinda hard to reconcile how he could get "re-elected"
and then suddenly drop in all the polls.

Hard to figure that one.

6. Not everyone who doesn't approve was necessarily going to vote for kerry
just like, even with his 70% approval ratings, Clinton would have been unlikely to pull 70% of the vote had an election been held at that time.

And, of course, the popular vote doesn't matter anyway--bush didn't get 50% of the vote the first time around, either.

7. That's easy, they don't have the voting machines
capable of saying how wonderful Bush is on phone polls but it's coming.

:-)

9. several reasons
1) Not all of the people polled, vote.

2) Disapproval of Bush could be registered by not voting at all, voting for Kerry, or voting for other people, or even voting for Bush as the best of choices all of which you disapprove of.

Others that were listed by others in this thread.

8. I caught that too but couldn't hang around for Wolfies challenge...
So Begala was correct... Clintons approval was above 50% for his entire 2nd term and * has never seen a number higher than 50% in his second term.

I'm going to be sure to recite that info any chance I get.

11. Yeah, Leslie had to eat his misinformation and, of course, J. C. Watts
had already disappeared after trying to "correct" Paul. Leslie came back on air and said that the week after the impeachment Clinton was at 73% approval - and stayed in the 65% range throughout 1998. Big Dog enjoys a higher approval rating from moderate repugs than Chucklenuts. And the longer this nightmare continues the higher it will go. Ya think Watts thinks Big Dog's approval ratings were all Dems?

Watts tried to milk a one point up tick in the polls as earth shattering and Begala shoved it back down his throat. For once, Begala showed up ready to debate. Now that is the guy I remember from the 1992 campaign.

10. That makes sense. The majority voted against him.
Twice.
