1. I'd nix the exclamation point if I were you.
Looks a little too celebratory.

2. This is a fairly insensitive way of bringing up a tragic milestone.

Those are people's lives after all.

3. It's just a number - didn't you hear Tony Snowjob today?
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 01:58 PM by peacebird
``It's a number,'' White House press secretary Tony Snow told reporters at the White House.

4. It's just a number
"And every time there's one of these 500 benchmarks, people want something."

Alas, in this case wanting definitely does not equal getting.

6. Obviously Democrats want something by bringing up the NUMBER.

7. Not in the mind of "conservatives" because
the lives of our kids in Iraq mean absolutely nothing to them. If 100,000 get killed that number might get the attention of some of the flag wavers.

8. I hear you. But I have to say, we are not. We have just been
beating the wrong people.

9. In reality, we have surpassed the number of people killed on US soil
Sept. 11, 2001. There have been 303 American servicemen and women killed in Afghanistan in addition to the 2500 in Iraq. You may also include the 308 service people from the 'coalition'.

10. Plus 100,000 dead Iraqis, and 20,000 crippled G.I.'s.

11. Sorry,
But I don't see how 2500 dead American soldiers make us even with anybody. Now for the dead Iraqis........well over the "even" mark.

Iraq was justified because 'they attacked us'. There is no pleasure to be taken from any death, but when we have caused the deaths of so many more, how can that be justified (morally)? I just wish that when Tony Snow or Chimpy or evil Dick claim '2500 is just a number', that someone would stand up and say, "Hey you bastards, you have caused the deaths of tens of thousands and the attacks on 9-11 caused 2752, why should we continue this for decades...they're all just numbers?"
