What is your opinion of DailyKos going on MTP ??
Are the blogs becoming part of the MSM ? After all, nothing is more mainstream than MTP. Or is just good publicity for "blogs" in general? There is no danger of bloggers getting sucked into the chasm of control and propaganda now seen with the networks and government media operations? Or is this all totally harmless and nothing to be concerned about?

1. No, they're not.

I've never been a HUGE fan of Kos, like many on this board, because sometimes I find his writing boorish (he can sometimes morph into the very "liberal elitist" that the right wing charges we are), but he's still head and shoulders above many of the mainstream corporate media in his researching.

I think it's just good publicity. The more people who start choosing alternative media, the better. Not only is it better for the reader because it provides the sorely needed balance the corporate media chooses to ignore, it also makes better reporters out of the journalists: in order to continue record profit margins, the corporations must provide the people with a product of value or lose their shirts.

If it makes the lamestream media want to research and investigate their information with more vigor... if it makes the corporate hacks realize that not all of America buys their garbage - literally and figuratively - then I'm all for it.

2. It is a recognition that other forces are at play.
The fifth establishment. A watch on the watchers...

monitoring the media.

other forces are at play, now. its making MSM nervous
which is good.

glad Kos is on MTP. it'll look like new young dems on the rise
in america

3. If someone invited me
I certainly wouldn't turn them down.

I find it frustrating that DU continues to get ignored, while DailyKOS gets all the 'glory'.

However, a big part of KOS's popularity is that Marcos does a much better job of self promotion then we even attempt to. He's out there. He's getting on the talk shows. He's running the big convention in Las Vegas and we don't even have representation there. What's with that DU?

6. for one thing
"KOS" represents as a personality. What single person would be chosen from DU?

Before you say either of the three owners of this board, remember that a person has to want and like to do this type of work before it will be successful. We don't know that any of the three a) want this type of publicity; b) Are willing to go on talk shows and promote DU.

8. The way I got here was by the guy at Buzzflash being on Washington Journal
I first found Buzzflash which had a link to here, back in 2001 early on. Buzzflash deserves more recognition IMO.

9. That is the difference between us and them
and in many ways I think that's what makes this site better, because we don't have just a couple of big egos running it or dominating it.

However, there are pros and cons to both approaches. I think it's apparent which approach I prefer since I only post here and not on KOS.

The problem though is that most people are now hearing all about KOS and very few of them even know we exist. Even other progressive people that I meet have no clue who we are. A lot of us put a fair bit of effort into making this site one of the best. I don't think we would want to just fade away into obscurity, which I fear is what's starting to happen? So it's something we all need to think about.

4. I think it's a great idea, and great publicity!
I sure wouldn't worry about blogges getting sucked into a control chasm.

Im sure there are lots of people who either don't know, or don't know much about KOS, and it will be good exposure.

7. I'd like to see someone come in with their own videos
and quotes of past Whoresert statements and nail his ass to the wall.

10. Good thing
Most sheeple are so busy with their lives/jobs/family, they only have time and inclination to watch the evening news and the Sunday morning talk shows. The appearance by Kos will bring many new people to the Kos site for the first time....maybe they will learn something. No danger of Kos becoming MSM, unless, in 2008, Dems take everything....then, by definition Kos and DU will be MSM! From my mouth to God's ear.
