Why do the Far Right think that rules and laws apply only to other people?
Seems to be the case that they violate whatever rule they desire when they think they can do so without consequence.

For example, the trolls who come here to post. They had to agree to the DU rules to get a log in here, but they decided to take that account anyway knowing that they were going to violate the rules.

And there are some things happening on Wikipedia that are very similar.

Why do they think that all rules only apply to Lefties? Are they actually Christo-Anarchists? Or do they think they are Übermensch?

As in Ronald Wilson Reagan? Why don't you just call yourself Dutch? It's much shorter.

Thanks for the rundown of Clinton criminality. Now maybe you can elucidate the crimes of the Carter Administration for us.

3. There's a flaw in your logic sweetheart....
You keep asking why they *think* rules and laws apply to other people. The liberal in you gives people the benefit of the doubt and in this case, you make the very generous assumption that they *think* when in reality, what they do is emotionally react. Acting on logic is far different from acting on emotional whims. ;)

22. It can happen to ANYONE.
Look at the Stanford experiment, or the blue/brown eyes experiment or the "incident" in Haditha (which has been a DAILY occurence since March 2003 although Amis are NOT prepared to accept that FACT). People who seldomly hear the word, "NO" are particularly susceptible. People who readily buy into "Übermenschen status conferred upon them are equally hobbled. "I AM NOW ABOVE REPROACH." I've watched that happen to friends who have achieved fame, witnessed it with "spiritual gurus" who were considered above contradiction etc. et al. I find the root of the sickness in the patriarchal hierarchy, but THAT is a subject for another thread.

4. Because...

.. they are the kinds of personalities who are convinced that they would never do anything wrong. By definition, anything they do is right.

That is why folks like Bush and his supporters REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND dissent, they JUST CANNOT FATHOM how anyone could possibly question their motives, they KNOW they are good and right and stuff.

In other words, they are mentally ill.

12. This occurred to me..
.. while watching the first Kerry/Bush debate. If you watched it, you saw how blindsided and actually hurt Bush was. He could not believe that anyone would question his actions in that way, and Kerry was being a lot more gentle than I would have been.

At that time I realized, this guy really thinks he is a good person doing good things and his very soul rebels at the mere thought that anyone thinks different.

Again, mental illness.

"Higher Power," therefore, their motives are pure. We, on the other hand, are nothing but a bunch of godless, baby-killers, therefore our behavior needs to be regulated as much as possible.

7. forgiveness is the height of accomplishment: FOR OTHER PEOPLE
that's the biggest and best example I've got.

Christians I know always talk about forgiveness, but its always them wanting others to forgive them.

Either that, or they talk on and on about how they have forgiven someone, which only makes me think "Sounds like you still are holding a grudge if you're still talking about it."

only their own needs.

When something gets between their needs and reality, they throw a temper tantrum.

10. Privilege
The word comes from the Latin: "privi" = private, and "lex, legi" = law.

Privilege is a private law that the privileged party can invoke, and you and I can't.

Smirky has been brought up to believe in nothing so much as his own privilege-- a faith far stronger than any other belief in his shrivelled little soul. His surprise, when he actually gets called to judgment and is found to be profoundly un-Christian by the ultimate authority, will be as profound as Mohammed Atta discovering he doesn't get 72 virgins in paradise. Indeed, they may well find themselves in adjacent pits of flaming brimstone, which would in some ways be highly appropriate.

Other Repukes seem to identify with Smirky so strongly that they think his privilege inheres to them too.

14. Because All's Fair in Love and War
They think they are promoting God's love by engaging in a war with the "enemy" -- Satan in all his clever ruses. So nothing's off limits to them when engaged in mortal combat with the ultimate enemy.

The problem with Fundamentalist thinking is that it is essentially bipolar: one is either ascending toward the ultimate good (God, paradise, etc.) or falling into the abyss.

Fundamentalism tolerates no ambiguity and fundamentalists themselves therefore cannot deal with it on any level.

One can only imagine the personal torment they hide from view. And that, by the way, is why they are so interested in controlling not only their own behavior but yours and mine as well: pleasure = temptation = Satan = damnation = eternal torment.

Better get that damn Howard Stern off the radio double plus quick ...

23. I once played Monopoly with a republican....
True story:

I once played Monopoly with a rightist. He kept distracting me so that I'd turn my head, and when I did, he'd steal money from the "bank."

Then he landed on one of my properties that had a hotel on it and bitched and whined because he had to pay.

Sounds familiar, don't it? Typical republican.

26. LOL
yeah, it's very 'republican' to cheat at games. Not only do they believe that they should win all the time, but they believe that it's only right and just to take advantage of those still dumb enough to be playing by the rules.

As in Monopoly, so it is in life.

... I don't think it is - they're entire history, from the 50's on has been SPECIFCALLY aimed at "freedom for me, not for thee". Black folks, women, gay folks, banana republics, and so on.

It's not so much that that's what they do, IT'S WHO THEY ARE.

30. Watch the South Park episode called Chef Aid
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 03:16 PM by EOO
Chef gets sued by a record producer, even though it was Chef's own recording he stole. Every time they show the record producer, who has a blatantly obvious comb over, he repeatedly says "I AM ABOVE THE LAW!!!!!", only to have his comb over fall out of place, which he then puts back in place with some hair cream.

This is the mentality of the insane far right - they think they are above the law, and that the laws dont apply to them and only apply to those who speak out against the Smirking Chimp.
