Ann Coulter, a profile in courage
Farhad Manjoo says:

Oh, Ann Coulter, aren't you just the gift that keeps on giving! I confess that I'd been worried that you might have apologized to the 9/11 widows for some of what you've written about them in your new book -- and then what would I have blogged about this morning? After all, any decent person would be sorry for wondering, as you do in the book, "...by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies?" Especially after Kristin Breitweiser, one of the widows you attack, offered an emotional and articulate response to your comments, I thought you might say that you probably went too far in observing, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

But not you! No, your sense of decency remains well out of view, and for that I thank you. Because now I can write about how you descended on Wednesday into a Long Island town that lost 34 people on 9/11 and how, while there, you reveled in your attacks on these victims' family members. How brave you were! When a town board member handed you a letter saying that your words were "a disgrace to thousands who perished on that day," you did not pause to consider if there might be any truth to that, as surely a weaker soul might have. No, not clever theatrical you, what you did instead was -- man, I love this part -- you ripped up the letter! Now that's courage!

I also liked the part where you told reporters, "I think I've broken the taboo. I'm not going to treat them like victims." My God, that's right! Because why should the fact that they lost their husbands in the attack make them victims? I like how you think, Ann, I really do. Outside the box. (Psst: Call me.)

1. She is Heartless Soul and no one in their right frame of mind would want
to marry her much less meet her...

I wouldn't.

She is what the PUB Party REPRESENTS for I see no one from said Party scolding her...telling her to STFU and go home under the rock from which she came......NOT ONE PUB....

She is an EVIL WITCH(sorry witches) gone too far....way over the top...but then, she revels in notoriety

2. What's sad about this
Is that Ann is going to push it too far one of these days, and some grief stricken, pissed off person is going to kill her. Then she'll become a martyr for the neo-cons, a new St. Ann:puke:

I seriously hope that this isn't the case, but if she keeps going as she is, well, I hope she's got a bulletproof bra.

will off a liberal and dedicate the killing to her.

8. she's really out there -
I would hesitate to do a formal DSM diagnosis on her but I think she went around the bend some time ago for real, not just to promote her books.

She reminds me of a nasty tempered disingenous borderline and narcissistic personality disorder adolescent who will say ANYTHING at all to get the other party off balance and then keep pushing buttons, who has only two modes: manipulation and anger.

Except she's a little past her born-on date.

27. I have to agree with you
After having read more about little Annie's life than is really good for me, I believe that she first started this schtick of hers back in college just to be outrageous and get attention. But now I don't think this is an act anymore, and instead has become a deep seated psychosis.

And the sad thing is that by acting out her symptoms publicly, she is rewarded with money and fame, thus she utters ever more outrageous garbage, and around and around the vicious circle she goes.

I would say that it is sad and pitiful, and really it is, but my sympathy and compassion for people like Ann disappeared long ago.

14. I had a very similar premonition.
I've begun to think of her as a right-wing Karen Finley, a performance artist out mainly for the primal shock. Either that or a deranged harpy.

4. So, if Republican Spokeswoman Coulter isn't going to treat them
like victims, does that mean George and the rest of the RNC is going to quit flogging their caskets in every speech?

Plus we're here to DISCUSS not to dissent. Pretty much if you have a valid rationale for supporting Coulter, feel free to lay it out, with examples.

Make your case - we're all adults here.

You are correct, Ann was indeed only refering to the Jersey Girls in her book, with these and other "endearments: "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis," Coulter writes.

"And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy ...

"These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

And why did Anny decide to spew this vitriol? Because the Jersey Girls were wanting one simple thing, an investigation in 911, they pushed for the 911 Commission, for it to be public and open, unlike Bush, who at first didn't want *any* sort of investigation, and then when he was pushed, he wanted to keep it secret.

It is for that reason and that reason alone that Ann has gone after these women like a rabid pit bull.

And yet you see fit to defend her and her actions. Tells me a lot right there pal, and none of it is good.

Whoops, little troll is gone already. Damn, I was looking forward to continuing our little debate, but what can you do? Play Whack A Mole, I suppose.

Buh bye little troll, have a nice life in your parents' basement.

Oh, and if you're going to try and call me out for calling you names, it is best that you haven't started the shit slinging first with your little quip about how we're building a nice little soviet here.

Have a nice stay.

who endorsed Bush and spoke at the Republican National Convention. And can you supply any evidence that the "Jersey girls" feel they have "utter immunity"?

I don't think anyone said otherwise; it does seem however that you chose this occasion to come out of the closet. The troll closet, that is.

Coulter is beyond any conceivable defense. "It" and Limbaugh are two leading examples of what is WRONG with dialogue in this country.

Coulter laments that they (i.e. the widows) speak out because "then we can't attack them." In genuine debate, one attacks IDEAS, not people. She just showed her whole hand (as if it weren't already obvious). She cannot attack ideas, she must attack PEOPLE. Seems you just showed your hand too.

I'm waiting for someone to attack back. Literally.

She says what other Republicans only dare to think.

If you want to hear what is going on inside a Republican mind America, listen to Ann Coulter.

Don't pay attention to Democrats who think she's a nutcase who is over the top. The only thing she is over is the Republican fear of speaking what they really feel. So listen up and vote Republican if you like what you hear.

23. From Fred Phelps to Ann Coulter ... sociopolitical necrophilia.
These are people for whose sins people have been dying for over 2,000 years. How dare the wives try to horn in on the necrophilia enetitelments of the GOP?? Don't those widows know that the GOP has claimed the sole right to profit, both politically and economically, from the deaths of all the victims of 9-11 and all the people in Iraq?

Death is what the right-wing is all about - for profit of any kind.

30. Coulter is doing this for money, she is the one who is trying to cash in
on the deaths of the husbands of the 9-11 widows. To her, it is something she can do to ensure she gets a paycheck.

She is so far OTT, that she, somewhat unfortunately, will most likely get killed for the things she is saying. People have gone ballistic over far less, and since she has to have bodyguards, I think she knows she is in danger. Thing is, it may well be a neo-con that gets to her.

I digress however...this is all about money, and she is using the 9-11 victims to rake in cash; after all, what was HER sacrifice?
