shadowy Iranian terrorist who has committed many atrocities in Iraq but known to have fled to Tehran and in cahoots with the Iranian government and al-qaeda. Bank on it.

4. But, they have *confirmation* this time!
CNN said, "according to a statement on a website", Al-Queda confirmed he was dead. I tried looking for it at 'alqueda.com' but couldn't find it -- do you think it's maybe a '.org' address?

But in any case, 'a statement on a website' sounds pretty firm, doesn't it?

when I saw all the dead Zarquawi threads this AM, I was thinking, "didn't this dude die about a dozen times already? Can't they find ANY other terrorist besides him?"

Glad I wasn't imagining I'd heard of his demise over and over and over.

And I bet all of those above dates correspond to a point when * needed a boost in his approval numbers ?

11. I started to collect these stories as I knew this would happen eventually
but I lost the list, I want to thank you for this, popping this bullshit bubble passed on by a Media that of course people here REFUSE to believe unless it had backed up Leopold's Bunk, or used as verification for other silly "conspiracy" stuff..

There IS a conspiracy, and it IS by the media NOISE machine, designed to FRAME the issue so all YOU folks will talk about in thread after thread is WHAT you've been LED TO fight (framing), instead of CREATING your own news and stories based on actual fact, and promoting THOSE.

If WE are to Become the media we must IGNORE most of what we pass on by them, and MAKE OUR OWN NEWS, based on truth and factual data done with research from our own fine minds right here on the DU, or KOS or other reputable Blogs.. the New Media need not be led by the nose and Rove's Fax machine.

Great list, PROVES the Media IS LYING, this is designed for multiple reasons, it's goddam psyops, to raise Bush's numbers, make us ignore the war crimes committed by our own troops, etc.

Let's cut out the WOO WOO and work on finding out the TRUTH instead of parroting the MSM's 'reports'..

When I get back I'll look for the list I was compiling and maybe we can compare Notes..

Takebackthemedia.com once forced CNN to put BACK 750 words it had REMOVED from a Hans Blix report on NO WMD long BEFORE the "war", and THAT is what we all need to do now.. get this list together and use it to HAMMER the Media with it..

good job Solly!!

And after that comes Newsdump Friday!!!!

Well Symbolman, esp. coming from you and the work you have contributed to "becoming the media"....

Why are people playing along with games they know are being played on them? You are speaking to the potential of a board like this to do more than regurgitate and bat around the dead mouse we were tossed to amuse ourselves with.

We could only hope that even Republicans would be insulted this week that the Gay Marriage red flag was waved in their faces timed with the election. The more people figure out the media games they resort to cynicism-- settling for identifying it and nothing more-- or tuning out altogether. And btw, WHY before EVERY election, do the papers print that no one is going to show up?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could only hope that DUers will recognize all the phonies here that are fanning the flames of framing games and batting around that dead mouse until its in shreds.

47. I like your writing style
great way to lay it all out and on the line.. batting THEIR dead mice around.. wish people would realize they are being PLAYED..

Now this is a bit off topic, and while I have gay pals and it IS an important topic, the right has us "HATING" the rest of the US by REFUSING to be Indocrinated with THEIR SPIN..

It's a Trap. Sure, Gays, Trannys, etc have the RIGHT to stand up and be counted, and us heteros along side them.. BUT, and this always comes back to me..

THe KKK got a permit to march in downtown LA, and usually when they do, good kind and generous loving people will usually LINE THE STREETS, scream at the Hateful assholes wearing the bags over their heads..

THIS ONLY DIGNIFIES the KKK. As one black police Chief said, "STAY HOME. DO NOT ATTEND THIS PARADE. DO NOT GET INVOLVED. Do you realise how STUPID and ineffectual the KKK will Look, MARCHING DOWN AN EMPTY STREET?"

I've never forgotten that, and wish that as far as he Media yanking our chains, forcing us to "choose sides" in complicated affairs, that WE WOULD TAKE THE UPPER HAND, and IGNORE THEM..

Better yet, WE supply PROOF that they are WRONG, just like SOLLY is doing HERE.. THEN WE get in LOCKSTEP, all the BLOGS ALL OVER THE WEB, and WE TELL THE TRUTH, the REAL Stories, BE the New MEDIA..

THis is how we can win.. make THEM REPORT from OUR Stories, and truth be told the lazy asses are already doing it in a lot of ways, they don't have or can't afford the staff to do it, but WE CAN.. we have the Passion, the Numbers, the Minds, the Truth, the Integrity to BEAT THEM at their own Game...

WE created the news that everyone is talking about around the watercooler on FRIDAY, have our OWN NEWS DUMP..

The Lazy media will use SOME of our work, and then, if we all LOCKSTEP, decide on a subject, and all the BLOGS HAMMER on it, the media CANNOT ignore us..

I've seen it happen on smaller scales, and soon I'm going to be asking many blogs to created a SINGLE editoral board and a site where we who can be trusted can "call the shots" without sites and blogs losing their branding, to LOCKSTEP and ATTACK the Media with FACTS and TRUTH..

We can do it, trust me, I've done it and seen it work.

Solly and all here, YOU have inspired me to drop some projects and make this a REALITY.. and of course those who control the Media, control the actual REALITY of the thoughts of All americans, with that comes the CHANGE..

Now is the time to STRIKE, Let's ROLL :)

51. I know that Lockstep has bad connotations, BUT
What I am proposing is that as we all know there are many Blogs out there who "parrot" whatever comes down the line and slap it on their sites, many only to be dissapointed later to find out that they have egg all over their faces - and left with a connundrum, "How do we Explain that we were WRONG, do we print a 'retraction', do we admit we were fooled, even by a 'progressive' story, and will we lose readership as a result?"

Many blogs have been put into bad situations by printing ill researched "scoops" (whatever you may believe on the Leopold debacle, it still caused a great deal of consternation, and many are in a holding pattern) - esp when 400 blogs simply became 'repeater stations' if nothing else to have some sort of CONTENT and fighting for our own Progressives in that regard..

This is where an Editorial Board comes in, those that DON'T print something that isn't up to snuff Journalistically, need to be left hanging for a bit, and congratulated IF it comes true, but later with the whole story and the PROOF that it WAS indeed TRUE, but later, not BEFORE something has happened..

There are PLENTY of those who do not print something without further investigation, or who have a history of being on the MARK every time, let's say someone like Greg Palast, who I would trust under any circumstance, they do the work, and what they say is golden and to be trusted..

Palast is someone who you KNOW you can print when it hits the waves, and a portal like what I propose would be SPOT ON and useful NOW, when we can SLAM the media NOW, while they are pushing bullshit..

Just like Solly's post here and all the threads, PROOF that the Media is not to be trusted NOW anymore than before..

BUT, it will not mean that blogs are NOT to be believed, just that people with experience, a TIGHT Editorial board for the New Media make the call, and refuse to print something that will demean our efforts ON THE SPOT.

I'm now realizing that this needs to be done and before the Midterms, with advertising for Progresives books, films, etc that CANNOT be subvered by the MSM, period.

Maybe THIS is what Takebackthemedia.com needs to pull together (along with our exposes cloaked as Flash Political attack ads, of which we've done very well), and THEN the Blogs can spread the word on these articles, books, animations that CANNOT be disputed, organized into sections daily, like Politics, Environmental, Elections - who to back and who NOT, Electronic Voting information that is BULLETPROOF by folks like Avi Rueben, etc..

Get Tom Tommorrow on board, Buzzflash (who are VERY careful not to jump the shark on stories), and KOS, and the myriad of sites like firedoglake, who's very group of writers are LEGALS who take the sane approach, no tin foil, just FACTS, etc..

IT IS TIME.. I've gone on O'Reilly, and MSNBC's Scarborough show and shoved the facts up their asses on national TV, and believe me they fold up like lawn chairs when the TRUTH is shoved in their faces, THEN you load up those clips to further your claim that the Coalition (which I've always called "The 13 Original CyberColonies" IS THE NEWS..

I'm going to start contacting all those I KNOW for a fact to not tin foil the news, that make perfect sense that the PUBLIC can get behind, and clean up the Blog "repeater station" mentality that keeps up from reaching the next level, the dangerous level where WE ARE THE NEWS :)

Takebackthemedia.com held a Media Summit during the Dem convention and we have a group that has Brilliant ideas, it's time to use them.

We'll tear a page out of the right wing noise machine's playbook, but NOT use the Playbook itself..

Thoughts?

WHO WILL HELP ME BAKE THE BREAD? :)

Those others were Guido, Jose, Julian, Seymour and Jaime.

I saw a freeper bouncing around this morning like this was the greatest thing since...well...well...well...

In the big scheme of things, this means zero as he doesn't pull the triggers and plants the IEDs...and those aren't going away. Now the boooosh regime will have to find, or make up, another boogie man.

I just heard Ray Lahood...(R - Pissant) already saying..."hey, we don't know if there not another Zarquawi out there"...sounds like the next game is being set.

Looks like the Rove machine is rolling out the Fall model several months early. From the sham immigration game to gay marriage and now let's get back to the terror game.

Look for Zarqawi to be like the Skittles Homeland Safety alert game of 2006...next it'll be a Sadr or some other trumped up name that will be that next "mastermind" that can dominate a news cycle.

Makes me wonder what bad news this is trying to cover up...

When I heard the news while driving in to work this morning, my first reaction was "What, they killed him AGAIN? Puh-LEEZE." After confusing my toddler by ranting and raving back at the radio, spitting all over the inside of my windshield, my next thought was, "Wow. The Bushies are really scared." This is October Surprise material, but they trotted it out now? This smacks of desperation--gay marriage amendment foiled (for now); estate tax removal foiled...they're losing it.

Now, what about those electronic voting machines...

I told him that Zarqawi had been reported dead many times before - now I have the links I can email him when he gets to work.

For the record, my husband is a New England liberal former Army linguist who worked in pre-war Bosnia gathering information he's not privvy to tell me. I wanted to make clear that he thinks this Zarqawi death thing is purely political and he'll find these links very interesting.

Or am I thinking someone else?

I could swear I remember reports of this guy being killed in Afghanistan in 2001 and then a month later reports of him escaping detention there, and then him being killed again in 2002 and then showing up alive in Iraq after the invasion started.

Perhaps I've got the name mixed up with someone, but I gave up on counting his "deaths" a long time ago.

31. LOL ! Thanx Solly .How US fuelled myth of Zarqawi the mastermind
How US fuelled myth of Zarqawi the mastermind
By Adrian Blomfield outside Fallujah
(Filed: 04/10/2004)

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the terrorist leader believed to be responsible for the abduction of Kenneth Bigley, is 'more myth than man', according to American military intelligence agents in Iraq.
Several sources said the importance of Zarqawi, blamed for many of the most spectacular acts of violence in Iraq, has been exaggerated by flawed intelligence and the Bush administration's desire to find "a villain" for the post-invasion mayhem.

Zarqawi fuels his ambition with the release of a video of the beheading of Nick Berg

US military intelligence agents in Iraq have revealed a series of botched and often tawdry dealings with unreliable sources who, in the words of one source, "told us what we wanted to hear".
"We were basically paying up to $10,000 a time to opportunists, criminals and chancers who passed off fiction and supposition about Zarqawi as cast-iron fact, making him out as the linchpin of just about every attack in Iraq," the agent said.

"Back home this stuff was gratefully received and formed the basis of policy decisions. We needed a villain, someone identifiable for the public to latch on to, and we got one."

Al-Zarqawi reportedly fled Afghanistan in late 2001 while the country was under invasion by the US and UK. Several reports say Al-Zarqawi spent much of 2002 moving back and forth from Iran to Iraq. The Bush administration claims that Al-Zarqawi set up a poison and explosives training camp in northern Iraq, working alongside members of Ansar Al-Islam (supporters of Islam). However, that organization, heavily targeted during the 2003 US invasion, was vocally and militantly opposed to Saddam Hussein.

Al-Zarqawi is also alleged by the Bush administration to have been working with Al-Qaeda on a strategy to ignite a civil war among Iraq’s disparate religious and political factions as a way to undermine the US occupation, thus clearing the way for a Taliban-like state.

At the same time, some Iraqis, who doubt Al-Zarqawi’s presence, guilt or even existence, suggest his legend is mostly a CIA or Pentagon construction and that the terrorist acts attributed to him are actually carried out by secret American or Israeli operatives. They likewise suggest the mythic Al-Zarqawi is part of a foreign strategy to divide Iraq’s religious sects and political factions and justify a prolonged occupation.

53. Guys, actually click the links and read the headlines.
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 09:41 AM by Skinner
Every single one of them has a qualifier of some kind (and one of them says he's injured, not dead):

Iraq militants claim al-Zarqawi is dead
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4446084

IRAQ: FALLUJAH SHEIKH SAYS AL-ZARQAWI DIED ON FRIDAY
http://www.adnki.com/index_2Level.php?cat=Terrorism&loid=8.0.173437230&par=0

Report: al-Zarqawi may have been killed in Mosul
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1132475588009&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

IRAQ: AL-ZARQAWI SERIOUSLY INJURED, SAYS IRAQI OFFICIAL
http://www.adnki.com/index_2Level.php?cat=Terrorism&loid=8.0.165740392&par=0

Please try to be more careful in your reading of the news. Words have meaning. This time is different. Zarqawi is actually dead this time -- accept it.

54. I do use "may" and seriously injured in the OP
and the seriously injured one also says "possibly dead"

I wasn't trying to mislead anyone. Sorry if it seemed that way.

in the title of this thread.

Skinner beat me to it. None of your links has American officials confirming his death. It's real this time.

Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 11:52 AM by Solly Mack
Do I?

Nope..sure don't. At NO time do I claim the US made the claims that al-Zarqawi is dead...I am gathering dates for all the claims..regardless of who made them.

61. Misleading, at best
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 01:49 PM by Left Coast Lynn
Your manufactured headlines..

al-Zarqawi is dead on March 4, 2004
al-Zarqawi is dead - June 2, 2005 (Ramadi)
al-Zarqawi MAY be dead - Nov 20, 2005
al-Zarqawi seriously injured may be dead - May 11, 2005 (Anbar province/Syrian border)

The actual headlines....

Iraq militants claim al-Zarqawi is dead
IRAQ: FALLUJAH SHEIKH SAYS AL-ZARQAWI DIED ON FRIDAY
IRAQ: AL-ZARQAWI SERIOUSLY INJURED, SAYS IRAQI OFFICIAL
Report: al-Zarqawi may have been killed in Mosul

Look pretty different. So why did you alter them?

68. I didn't alter the headlines as I didn't use any headlines
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 03:35 PM by Solly Mack

I used the dates of the articles and listed if the article said dead or injured, may be dead. That you, and anyone else, choose to make more of it than that is solely on those pulling accusations out of their asses.

If you choose to assume motivation and intent, do try and know what you're talking about. Thanks in advance.

And if you're unsure, try asking instead of doing to others exactly what you've accused me of...you're "misleading" by suggesting I altered headlines...though misleading isn't exactly the word I'm thinking of...

71. I'm afraid you did some altering
even though you might not want to call your concoctions 'headlines', they're still phrases that omit some very relevant information.

Instead, the site administrator had to tell people to click and read the headlines

Why didn't you simply provide the actual headlines with your links? Wouldn't that have been simpler to making a phrase to go with it?

Zarqawi lived briefly after attack

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A mortally wounded Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was still alive and mumbling after American airstrikes on his hideout and tried to get off a stretcher when he became aware of U.S. troops at the scene, a top military official said Friday.

76. I am suspicious of the U.S. Government's story about the Zarqawi killing.
Was Zarqawi at ground zero? Do we know exactly where his body was found?

I ask because I doubt there would be an ounce of flesh remaining after two 500 lb. bombs (Mk 82s) landed on Zarqawi's lap.

No matter what, Zarqawi will be replaced by a dozen others, and his martyrdom will be a great rallying cry for more 'terrorists.'
