Rave reviews for "An Inconvenient Truth"
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 06:26 PM by jefferson_dem

"Truth succeeds at cutting through the clutter surrounding global warming by making a clear, compelling case for how our actions are affecting the planet."
-- Ethan Alter, PREMIERE MAGAZINE

"It's a mind-boggling disaster epic that draws its special power from the fact that we are both the villains and victims of the story."
-- William Arnold, SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER

"A flat earth was inconvenient to Papal authority in Galileo's time. Now, what heresy is Gore committing with a scientifically based argument against contributing further to relentlessly destructive natural forces?"
-- Jules Brenner (FC), CINEMA SIGNALS

"It's as a piece of entertainment that the movie scores its most surprising victory, taking the audience on a dizzying emotional and intellectual journey."
-- Brett Buckalew, FILMSTEW.COM

"What one comes away with hoping for the future is that we do not look back on Al Gore as we look back now on Eisenhower ("Why We Fight") or Edward R. Murrow ("Good Night, and Good Luck") - as a man who gave a warning unheeded. "
-- Laura Clifford, REELING REVIEWS

"If you believe, as I do, that global warming is a critical problem, then An Inconvenient Truth could not arrive at a more important time."
-- Daniel Eagan, FILM JOURNAL INTERNATIONAL

Very excited about this.

You can go to the Inconvenient Truth Web site and find out where it's playing in your area. It's a .pdf file:

3. Wow, at 89% "Inconvenient Truth" has a higher score than "Cars"!

And most of the bad reviews are from people who obviously have some political axe to grind. I really can't wait to see this film.

On Edit: Like this stupid hack in the Toronto Star. He hits every note of the media's typical Gore bashing script except accusing him of inventing the internet. He even claims Gore is lying when he says he's given the presentation about 1000 times. Then he throws out a bit of character assassination at the end, saying Gore contributes to global warming by flying around, instead of telling the truth, which is that Gore buys carbon offsets for himself and his family, paying someone else to take just as much carbon (or more) out of the atmosphere as his travel puts into it.

But what I love most is that, in spite of his reflexive Gore-bashing... he still thinks the movie is pretty great. :)

9. Also Roger Ebert:

In 39 years, I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: You owe it to yourself to see this film. If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to

I saw it today, and I echo that sentiment.
