Smear Of The Day: Radical Right Attacks Murtha’s Vietnam War Medals…
CNS News | Marc Morano, Randy Hall | Posted January 13, 2006 04:11 PM

READ MORE: Iraq, George W. Bush, Rep. John Murtha
Having ascended to the national stage as one of the most vocal critics of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha has long downplayed the controversy and the bitterness surrounding the two Purple Hearts he was awarded for military service in Vietnam.

Murtha is a retired marine and was the first Vietnam combat veteran elected to Congress. Since 1967, there have been at least three different accounts of the injuries that purportedly earned Murtha his Purple Hearts. Those accounts also appear to conflict with the limited military records that are available, and Murtha has thus far refused to release his own military records.

4. If I ever see a freeper with a fucking purple band-aid on their
face, I am going to go off!! That is one of the most disrespectful things I have ever seen.

That freakin' lady with the band-aid on her chins and that stupid grin on her face pisses me off every time I see it.

7. You and me both. She'd need more than a band-aid if she ran into me.
Take their faux outrage at burning the flag and raise it to the tenth power ... a hospital would be in her immediate future.

8. Yep, I just wonder how long before that cow from Texas slaps one on her
ugly-ass face and derides ANOTHER, GENUINE WAR HERO? Two of my favorite memories of Campaign 2004: that ugly c*** with her purple band-aid and the nice young rethuglican boy kicking the shit out of the protester as she lay on the ground. I tell you, the compassion just overwhelms...

12. Rove-Bush** having those bandaids handed out to all attendees at the
Rpuke convention was rotten to the core. Too bad Kerry left it go unchallenged.

2. All true, I'm sure. Murtha is a complete phoney, a lying --
-- decietful, two-faced, liberal subversive. Service to his country? Ha! He probably was smoking weed and listening to Pink Floyd the whole time.

Also don't forget he kidnapped the Lindbergh baby, beats his relatives, makes threatening phone calls to churches, has a life-long homosexual relationship with a junky, and operates a white slave trade out of his basement home.

Anyone who says different must work for the liberal media.

10. "Choby has run against Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.)...
in five of the past six congressional elections. And in all five races he was mowed down by a working-class electorate that for nearly three decades has faithfully backed Murtha."

I no longer live in Johnstown or even in the state, but I hope to gawd the nation rejects yet another unsavory episode of smear-boating.

15. They are scared of Murtha plain & simple............
"politics of personal destruction", perhaps we should take the gloves off and start blogging & placing stories, rumors and gossip about Republicans...lots of deep dish dirt there. I'm sure we could get stuff to slip into the wire service.

Amazing they bring up Abscam investigation where an FBI sting caught congressman taking money....Murtha left the money sitting there....so somehow he become an unidicted co-conspirator. If you didn't take the money you were innocent.

18. Deja vu.
It just goes to show, they only have one way of dealing with criticism, and that is to respond by using the politics of personal destruction.

I think Murtha has an ace or two up his sleeve, though. He isn't running for president, and he follows his own counsel. He knew what he was getting into when he stepped forward and criticized the king.

This will be interesting to watch those who "support the troops" as they attempt to discredit Murtha.

19. It will take Viet Vets to stop the "swift-boating."
When enough Viet Vets (any of whom could wind up as swift-boat targets) wake up and return fire, this bullshit will end. Nobody cared about the Viet Vet before, nobody cares now. What we have are a hand-full of right-wing, elitist Viet Vets who are being used by the most cynical administration in the history of this country to smear any Viet Vet who dares to criticize the Dear Leader (himself an AWOL chicken-hawk from that very conflict!). In the spirit of Hugh Thompson, who stopped the massacre at My Lai-4, let's the rest of us Viet Vets rise up - as a group - against this destructive bullshit from the right-winged cabal. I'm as serious as a heart attack, brothers- and sisters-in-arms.

20. It doesn't matter to me one iota whether or not Mr. Murtha has
Purple Hearts. What matters to me is that this Marine Colonel served. He volunteered, and he served. To me this is worlds apart from the records of an AWOL* and a several time deferred shirker who had other priorities and who through their efforts have directly or indirectly contributed to the deaths and maiming of thousands, both military and civilian. I am not a war monger, but I did a career in the Navy, and I have all the respect in the world for this Congressman/Marine. He can say he's been there and done that - the other weasels can't. End rant.
