Hell, they killed the cousin of the Iraqi UN Ambassador in Haditha...
Edited on Tue May-30-06 06:47 PM by Junkdrawer
It was a full 6 months before the current incident. Here's his testimony:

In the morning of 25 th June 05, in the village of Al-Shaikh Hadid, the ancestral home of Al-Sumaida'ies, situated between the Al-Anbar town of Haditha and the American Military base at the Haditha Dam, a raid took place which resulted in the death of Mohammed the son of Abdul-Hadi Sa'id Al-Sumaida'ie, my first cousin. The circumstances of the raid and the death, based on a reliable account, were as follows:

Mohammed (21) was a promising second-year engineering student at the University of Technology in Baghdad. He was on a visit to his father's home in Al-Shaikh Hadid. He was the eldest of seven, and was well brought up and relatively shy, very far removed from any culture of violence.
....

• “Was that your son, in there?”
• “Yes”, she said.
• “They killed him!”
• She cried in disbelieve “You mean he is dead?”
• “Yes, he is dead”.

And turned to leave.

The mother let off a deafening cry of anguish, but the Marines were smiling at each other as they were leaving.

....

Report prepared by Samir Sumaida'ie, Ambassador to the United Nations from Iraq

How can they POSSIBLY blame this on the troops alone?

5. Gotcha. And agree. General Batiste, on Hardball today,
thinks the admin and specifically Rumsfeld should take the responsibility; I agree with that also.
Shades of Abu Ghraib, no? You have to listen to your COs, but if shit hits the fan, you're on your own. If any other admin was in charge and had a conscience, this wouldn't be happening. :(

6. Looks to me like this shit was routine. Then they kill the cousin...
of the Iraqi UN Ambassador (oops) and THAT was covered up. Then they killed women and children and took trophy pictures.

Someone show me where I'm wrong.

4. they can & they will blame this on 'the troops'
Edited on Tue May-30-06 06:55 PM by maxsolomon
atrocities are an inevitable & integral part of warfare. all the fine words about honor just sugar coat the reality of war - killing. the words serve to insulate those higher up - they can wink at killing of innocents & it never goes up the chain of command. in the collective mind of the pentagon & the white house, the crime is letting this out in the media.

after all, once you blame a CO, where do you stop?

bush?

the american electorate?

god?

You cannot believe this was the first and/or the only time something like this happened. It was just the first time that one of the victims was a relative of someone who was important.

8. It looks like they cover THAT up. All I can find is that the "incident"..
was turned over to the NCIS 9 months ago.

10. This is NOT a bolt from the blue by a few bad apples...
Think how many had to be murdered for the ambassador's cousin to be murdered by "accident".
