I just phoned Senator Dayton's office re: Alito. They don't care.
What else can I do?

I phone my Senator's office (Phone: 202-224-3244) and get some rude robot on the phone who can barely manage a civil response.

I was pleasant. I just asked for help in blocking Alito. She didn't ask for my name, what state or part of the country I was phoning from, why I wanted Alito blocked. Nothing.

She couldn't wait to get off the phone with me.

We are truly all alone here, folks. There is NO ONE left to stand with us.

1. Consider this.
These people are being inundated with phone calls. If they are short with you it is because thousands of people are calling in.

Just remain polite, and above all, brief.

If you have something more substantive to say, send a FAX.

5. I WAS polite. And she made sure I was brief when she hung up on me.
She acted like she had never even heard of Alito.

Dayton is quitting the senate..so I guess he just doesn't care.

15. I've had that happen a couple of times this week.
These staffers are working their tails off. Be assured that the staffer is ticking off calls as they come in as pro- or anti-. The Senator will have a count of constituent calls and of those outside the constituency. At least that's what should be happening. I think most Congress Critters are fairly sensitive to these things.

17. Dont forget the Senate is in recess - Dayton is not part of the Judiciary
Committee and his staff is probably minimal. Send emails, particularly when it comes to people who are going to vote against Alito.

2. Well My hubby
called Biden, Leahy, Kohl, Durbin, Ben Nelson, Lieberman's office. Durbin's office worker hung up on him 2times. Hubby was hopping mad. He pressured them to answer why they were not on the floor for Alito's confirmation hearing. He asked them to vote him down. I know of nothing else to do.

10. Well, for a start, Nelson and Lieberman were not on the floor because
they dont belong to the Judiciary Committee.

The other ones spent most of the last 5 days working on that, but they also belong to other committees and still have to work on other issues, so they sometimes leave the floor when it is not their time to speak. Either somebody listens to the hearings for them or they will read the transcripts.

There were other questions to be asked, but I can understand why the poor staffer that is paid for answering the phones was a little bit rude.

This said, they cannot answer because Reid has asked that they do not take a position before next Wednesday (Democratic caucus meeting on the issue).

21. Durbin's office

I had a problem with them too. The guy was very short with me and basically gave a "who gives a shit what you think" kind of response.

I asked him to make to mark off that I was against Alito.

Cheers!

3. Call back
get the name of the aide. GIVE the aide your name and address, and request a response in writing from your senator. If you still get a robot like answer, write your senator and complain about the aide.

9. He did call back and asked who the guy was.
They refused to say. (write your senator and complain about the aide) why would our senator care what another senator did? Just asking.

20. Write the senator the aide worked for
I assumed the person was calling his/her senator, which is why I phrased it the way I did. If the person was calling another senator, I'd find an address in that senator's state from which to write, and write and complain. I'm sure there is a DUer from the senator's state that would help out.

11. It is, and the Senate is in recess. Dayton is not in Washington
and the staffer probably cannot answer your question. Dayton will vote NO.

25. OMG! I called his Washington office! What a fucking BITCH!!!
She fucking LIED to me! I asked her to tell me how many people have phoned to express opposition to Alito and she refused to tell me...said she "didn't know". When I asked her how she could say that, since she was the one answering the phones..she offered to send me to the press department and have them read me his written statement on supporting Alito.
