Wallace tops survey in Fort Bend County
GOP voters were polled on who should replace DeLay on ballot

SUGAR LAND - A survey of Republican voters in Fort Bend County showed Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace as the favorite to replace U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay on the November ballot.

Wallace received 640 votes while state Rep. Charlie Howard got 292. Tom Campbell, an attorney who ran unsuccessfully against DeLay in the March primary, got 216 votes

Wallace and DeLay know each other well. Wallace is on the board of directors of Rio Bend, a non-profit foster care community DeLay and his wife created. Wallace told me that he informed DeLay a year ago or so that he was interested in running for his seat. Baig insists DeLay himself has anointed Wallace as his successor.

And, as Time and Salon prominently noted, there’s the mayor’s connection to Houston home-builder Bob Perry, reported to be the single largest campaign donor in the state of Texas. Wallace works with, or for, Bob Perry’s son Will at Perry Properties LLC, and obviously has close ties to the Perry clan.

I'm in Houston and I hate the taint those freaks leave on us.
My poor, distressed fellow Dems in Sugar Land (yes, there are some feisty ones there) must loathe their slimy, corruption supporting neighbors. A whole new dimension to "neighborhood crime watch".

2. lol i'm one of those feisty sugarlanders! did you know that almost ALL

of DeLays' money came from outside the district? He didn't even pork it up for the old hometown. Too busy being the Federal Government.

3. Yes, that fact alone must drive you insane! All his ill-gotten gains

come from outside Sugar Land, he wipes his feet on his own district, and yet the rubes keep voting him in like he's delivering them to the Promised Land.

I truly sympathize w/my fellow Dems down there. I used to hail from possibly the reddest county in Texas (Collin County), and when the elections were in full swing I really hated my neighbors with all their bumper stickers, yard signs, etc. The only saving grace was when I started actively finding fellow dems and we camped together like we were under siege at the Alamo!

I know that kind of oppression can make your political philosophies crystallize and you learn to hone your logic and arguments to a fine, strong point. Now, I always say, if you want the strongest, most knowledgeable, most faithful dems - look for those holding down the fort in a sea of red!
