7. It's a Simpsons reference
The Stonecutters, an elite group of wealthy individuals that control everything. Just see the episode, it's one of the funniest things you'll ever see.

3. I'd love to see this.
I saw the clip on a Prius forum. There's a guy there who's really into EV's. Thanks for posting this here! :hi:

13. Mr.Zola has been wanting to do that for the past 2 years
The transmission fell out of one of our metros (I don't know how he managed that) and ever since he has been wanting to make it electric. He has been researching different electric motors, but so far doesn't feel confindent enough to do it.

Do you think your friend would mind sharing ideas/tips with my DH?

8. Awesome!
I'm glad this is finally getting some attention. I was pissed when GM destroyed all of their electric vehicles, and I always knew that the oil industry had something to do with it.

9. I'm recommending this so that people will know these things
actually exist (or did), and we may have them again soon.

Also here's a great thread at Prius Chat discussing EV's (and cool photos, too): http://priuschat.com/Thread-to-talk-about-EVs-t15103.html

It makes more sense to release a hybrid xB.

17. Nobody killed the electric car
The EV1 was dead at birth. It was the soloution to a problem
that doesn't exist.

The first rule of technology is "You never replace a
technology with an inferior technology. I can hear you all
gasp, "But EV technolgy is not inferior".

Yes it is! The EV proponenets mistakenly assume people buy a
car to get from point A to point B. The problem is people no
sooner buy a car to get from place to place, than women shop
at Fredricks of Hollywood because they need underwear.

The reason people buy a car is freedom, Freedom to go where
they want to go when they want to go there, Freedom to live
where they want to live. Any replacement to current automotive
technology that inhibits in any way those freedoms is destined
to fail. There is no reason to buy a car that you can't take
on a weekend trip to the country.

Asside from it's estimated $100,000 production cost, $10,000
30,000 mile battery replacement cost, The EV1 was just plain
stupid.

It was a 2 seater. Who buys 2 seaters? Young single people.
People who don't usually have almost $40,000 for a car, but
who also get out and do things on the weekend. Plan your
saturday around an 80 mile envelope? For the price you could
have bought 4 geo metro's that got nearly 40mpg.

In addition, the 80 miles to a charge only applies if you live
in a warm climate. For those of us who have to shovel snow,
well you might get 40 or 50 in winter, (if you don't use heat
or lights) You see batteries don't put out as much energy when
cold.

Then consider the ecological impact of 1175 lbs of lead used
to make the batteries.

It is estimated gasoline would have had to been over $6.00 a
gallon to make this car pratical. Then ask yourself why with
Gasoline at or around $6.00 in much of Europe why isn't
Europe leaping headlong towards EV technology?
Perhaps most likely the $6.00 gal price is a low estimate.

18. A lot of what you say here is incorrect.
If you looked at the link to the thread I posted above, much of that is explained. There are also pictures of EV's---yeah, even an SUV. I'm getting ready for work now, but will try to post more later.
