CTBob: Lieberman forcing state Dem chairs to freeze out Lamont voters
The CT state party is meeting to endorse candidates for the primaries in August. Lieberman, by all counts, is a shoo-in for Senate, but any candidate who gets 15% or more votes earns a spot on the primary ballot. Lieberman is trying to get expectations way up for Lamont, saying he'll probably get 30%; meanwhile, word is from CT Bob, in this comment at Fire Dog Lake, that Lieberman is working behind the scenes to stifle Lamont supporters at the town committee level before they can do him any damage:

And here’s more of Joe’s treachery:

“…So, here is the scuttlebut I am hearing…

Lieberman is getting DTCs (Democratic Town Committees) to call emergency meetings this evening to adopt resolutions for bloc-voting tomorrow night. Follow up if and where you can, and feel free to run with the story…”

Joe is trying to force every DTC chairman to coerce all their members to vote for Joe alone.

And I’m going to be interviewing delegates tomorrow to see if Holy Joe’s goon squad has been strong-arming them.

Joe is hearing footsteps behind him…

2. Evidently all the DTC Chairmen must be "Lieberman guys" if he can
count on them to do his bidding. I hope some of them have the guts to refuse him and to help the other candidates get on the ballot.

Lord, I hope Lieberman loses!

3. Any CT DTC chairs here? This is NOT the way we do things in Massachusetts

If so, what do your bylaws say?

My committee's bylaws have specific language concerning notice of meetings. We require two day's notice to all committee members, and that the meeting be posted in the local media.

FOUL!

7. I remember when..
the republicans were calling for term limits.
It was part of their platform for a while.
That was, of course, before they seized power.

9. Term Linits were a part of the Republican Contract on America.
I am against them.
While they would limit the damage done by assholes like Lieberman, they would eliminate people like Conyers, Kucinich, Kennedy, Kerry, Feingold, etc......Throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

14. I remember an interview with, I believe, Sen. Byrd.
Senators spend a lot of their time fundraising and campaigning for the next election. They all pander, to some degree, to make themselves more electable. Take that issue away and let them focus on the issues.

Besides, for every Kerry, Kennedy, Feingold, etc. there are others out there in the wings with equally strong positions and ideas.

11. Clean Elections public financing is the REAL answer!
Take poison money out of funding politics. That's the way to get rid of corruption and individuals like Lieberman. Any time I hear someone say Term limits, or redistricting as answer, I have to say that those are bandaid solutions that don't really solve anything, just change the landscape and replace one set of problems with another (or one set of bad individuals with another) and in the course of doing so, perhaps lose some really good people too.

Clean Elections is the way. We just need to edumacate people better on what it means and why it works!

12. I agree
Most people who are against it have yet to understand that they end up paying for it, one way or another.
The others who are against it are the ones who benefit from the status quo.

13. what progressives don't seem to understand
is that the dem party works very hard to keep the status quo. Simply put, it will be a progressive coup for Ned Lamont to appear on the primary ballot. Same with Tasani in NY. The party wants their incumbents re-elected - a primary does not coincide with this goal.

GET OUT THE VOTES PROGRESSIVES!
