"Green Group Split Hurts Prospects for Wilderness
By Bill Schneider, 5-15-06

Last Friday, I posted a story about a nasty split among pro-wilderness groups over the new Partnership Strategy for the Beaverhead-Deer Lodge National Forest in southwest Montana. Three large and effective environmental groups worked out a compromise with the timber industry for a revised management plan for Montana’s largest national forest, but other green groups vocally insist too much was sacrificed in reaching the accord.

I hated writing that story, to be honest, because it seemed like, once again, the greens were playing into the hands of their competition, those opposed to Wilderness. I see both points of view in this unruly debate, and being sort of an opinionated guy myself, I certainly respect everybody’s right to disagree, but buying pointy ads in newspapers and name calling are over the top"

1. Nader's point
(please oh please no turn down the flames) that so many in the environmental movement had compromised away the issue seems to be bearing fruit. At the time of funeral of a longtime friend who never was "sensibly" compromised he took this opportunity to lay them all out in purple.

The idea that you can in harmony and with reason deal with corporate greed to obtain results to make everyone happy and thus a happy happy sustainable capitalist world must inevitably fall on a falsehood.
Compromise with the relentless foes of the wilderness, the for profit developers will first of all mean that the first off the tight rope will be the idealists, the second bunch off the tight rope will be the centrist compromisers. The end result will be the worst the idealists had feared.

I am sure the various groups all had it down concerning goals and solidarity, but apparently so did Nader concerning the poison pills of Third Way Environmentalism. Going about business as usual in these times is perfectly dangerous and ill advised and is hereby proved even outside the visible grasp of the hostile government.

Idealism is not fantasy land is is what is left of a real world and hope for its survival. The more this is departed from for business as usual falls prey to the crisis of this time. We can't get this through the skulls of the Democratic party but at least they hold themselves together. Everyone is made to pay the price for collaboration and compromise. Everyone is busy paving and the road to hell and bickering at their critics. It could have worked, will work if given a chance has no bearing to the fact that relentless greed, the relentless Coup IS having its way. The exposure of egos and divisiveness among these Green groups is a sign of their corrupted dedication. The times really call for them getting together for a real head-banging session to forestall a new status as clownish, puffed up, ineffectual suckers, the one the industries are very happy to impose upon them or lure them into.
