Hotline: "The nastiest piece of direct mail we've ever see"
Have A Heart
This has to be just about the nastiest piece of direct mail we've ever seen.

A candidate for State Assembly in the central valley region of CA, Bill Conrad (R) is apparently running on the platform that his opponent won't survive his term because he had a heart transplant.

Attack line: 'Tom Berryhill doesn't have the HEART for State Assembly'

He had a freaking lung transplant because of some disease. He's still in office here in GA. No move to shove him aside for a healthier candidate.

Good lord, these Republicans are wicked, evil, heartless sons of bitches. :grr:

I can't believe a PR firm would actually use that as a centerpiece for a campaign or that a candidate would actually approve of that message.

But then he's a Repug, so anything's possible.

48. Ummm...I LIVE in the 25th AD dipwad
FYI, the Repubs only have about a 4% voting advantage over us in this area, a gap we've been narrowing for the past decade, so writing the northern San Joaquin area off as a redneck fundieland is stupid. Bakersfield? Fresno? Yeah, that's fundieland, but the northern valley is heavily populated by liberal working class people from the Bay Area who commute in every day.

FWIW, this gag may cost Conrad the nomination. Neither of them are particularly good politicians IMO, but Conrad is well known as a big business Repub (he's been involved in local politics for decades) and this move apparently alienated a LOT of his Christian Right supporters. People have been getting sick of his "bulldoze it all, and let the developers sort it out" mentality anyway, and this just may have been the last straw. My repub office secretary summed it up nicely yesterday when she said "I used to think Bill was a nice conservative guy, and now I just think he's a dick."

Since we really don't have a Dem candidate running this time around, I gotta say that I hope Berryhill kicks Conrads @55. I'll take a conservative, small town family farmer Republican over a conservative, big business anti-environment Republican any day. One is irritating but tolerable, the other is a cancer that needs to be removed from our political system.

25. Sick. Awful. Our local repubs did something equally vile.
Here in Washington STate, some republican group sent out postcards to homes with photos of actual sex offenders.. mug shots.. and put the names of two State reps under the photos.. the text said that those democratic reps were supportive of sex offenders, and weak in protecting children. It was so vile that it was attacked by every newspaper here... Of course the republican candidate who benefitted from it, said that they weren't involved.. of course. The one woman who was voted out two years ago, the repub who is benefitting from this, is all freaked out over sexual predators.. and that is her main focus in campaigns, and how she attacks other candidates.. using that issue. It's really rather creepy.
