Francis Bacon quote
Edited on Wed May-17-06 09:50 AM by InternalDialogue
This quote, part of Anu Garg's Word.A.Day listserv, got my morning off to a good start. The poetry of the words and its sentiment gave me a moment of hope that more Americans than we know instinctively know the same:

Nothing doth more hurt in a state than that cunning men pass for wise.
-Francis Bacon, essayist, philosopher, and statesman (1561-1626)

2. Great quote.
Wisdom is seldom mentioned these days. Every action must be a means to an end, and money and power, rather than wisdom, are promoted by our "leaders" as the ultimate goal.

"Wisdom and goodness to the vile seem vile; Filths savour but themselves." Shakespeare

3. Wisdom and philosophy
If you've got a few minutes to read or the luxury of listening to some podcasts, I recommend http://www.morephilosophy.blogspot.com for the posts and the forums, and the accompanying podcast. Very warm, casual, open, welcoming discussions. Meditative, thoughtful podcast.

I'm just now catching up to the current podcasts and dipping a toe into the discussion forums and blogs, but it feels like a good community there.
