Two-Year Old Public Report Reveals Diebold Was Warned of 'Newly Discovered' Vulnerability Allowing Software to be Overwritten Without Password in Matter of Minutes
Experts Suggest Decertification of System, Violations of Federal Standards, Describe Diebold's Failure to Act as 'Criminal'

The massive security flaw recently revealed in Diebold touch-screen voting machines -- which allows election software and systems to be overwritten with rogue software in minutes, without need of a password -- and which has sent Elections Officials from Pennsylvania to California to Iowa to every state in the union which uses them, sequestering the machines and scrambling for a solution to mitigate the problem, was previously revealed in a 2004 security report commissioned by the state of Maryland, The BRAD BLOG has learned.

Diebold, however, apparently ignored the warnings and did nothing to fix the serious flaw. Computer scientists and e-voting experts are now calling the delinquency of Diebold "criminal" and meriting of decertification for their touch-screen voting systems.

You are correct. Diebold's CEO until recently, Wally O'Dell, promised in

writer to "deliver Ohio's electoral votes" to Bush-Cheney in 2004. The OTHER major Bushite election system vendor, ES&S, is even scarier. ES&S is a spinoff of Diebold, initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also contributed one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation, which touts the death penalty for homosexuals (among other things). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship; they are are run by two brothers, Tod and Bob Urosevich.

These are the two corporations that 'counted' 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of secrecy.

If the upshot of Diebold's voting machine insecurity is that those election theft machines are replaced by ES&S election theft machines--or ANY private corporate voting machines run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code--we gain nothing.

The fundamental requirement for elections--TRANSPARENT VOTE COUNTING--is being violated by all of them, and by all of the corrupt election officials who have purchased their crapass machinery.

I am glad that the huge insecurity of Diebold's machines is being exposed, and not surprised that they are porous with hackable entry points. But we've got to insist on the principles of transparency and verifiability throughout our election system. Until we have transparency and verifiability, it is not accurate to call what we are having, elections. Non-transparent elections are NOT elections; they are tyranny.
