Murdoch to host fundraiser for Hillary Clinton
By Caroline Daniel in Washington
Published: May 8 2006 22:01 | Last updated: May 8 2006 22:01

Rupert Murdoch, the conservative media mogul whose New York Post tabloid savaged Hillary Clinton’s initial aspirations to become a US senator for New York, has agreed to host a political fundraiser for her re-election campaign.

The decision underlines an incongruous thawing of relations between Mr Murdoch and Mrs Clinton, who in 1998 coined the phrase “vast rightwing conspiracy” to denounce critics of her husband, such as Fox News, the conservative cable channel owned by Mr Murdoch’s News Corporation.

Mr Murdoch will host the fundraiser, due to be held by July, on behalf of News Corp.

One person involved in the event said it reflected his views of her as a senator, rather than as a presidential candidate. “They have a respectful and cordial relationship. He has respect for the work she has done on behalf of New York. I wouldn’t say it was illustrative of a close ongoing relationship. It is not like they are dining out together.”

13. I have no problem with this fund raiser - Dems need good media relations
and as long as there is no sell out (and I have not seen or heard of any to date - and I was there when she was pushing single payer National Health only to be told her task force was not allowed to consider single payer National health), I like the idea good media relations.

from the article:
"One person involved in the event said it reflected his views of her as a senator, rather than as a presidential candidate. “They have a respectful and cordial relationship. He has respect for the work she has done on behalf of New York. I wouldn’t say it was illustrative of a close ongoing relationship. It is not like they are dining out together.”

2. CBS News' version calls her a liberal
Edited on Tue May-09-06 12:53 PM by high density
Conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch will host a fundraiser for liberal New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Financial Times reports.
...
Clinton has worked hard to take the edge off her reputation as a card-carrying liberal. She has has collaborated with congressional conservatives on some peices of legislation, called for a "common ground" on abortion and cut a political figure some on the left see as decidedly un-liberal.

Clinton, who made her debut in the Senate Armed Services Committee four years ago, has never voted against any major Iraq military spending legislation. She has also taken two high-profile trips to Iraq – journeys that may have helped to strengthen the credentials of a senator with no military background or experience.

10. She's triangulating to win the nomination and the presidency.
Not really crazy about this, neither Gore or Kerry (both probably won) needed Murdoch to run.

Can't we get Gore or Kerry or Clark...they could win without the major triangulating strategy Hillary is employing.

She's too all over the board to for Americans to understand where she stands for a win, IMHO.

14. Well that does it with her. She's thrown trash at those of us who know
the Media trashed her hubby and herself from the time Clinton ran and the same media that pumped for Impeachment, trashed Al Gore and every other Democrat for Decades and helped Bush steal two elections....plus a Mid-Term and now she allows a monster like this to throw a fundraiser for her?

What's next? Mellon-Scaife to through one in Pittsburgh? :nuke:

16. If she snubs him he trashes her, if she doesn't he influences her...
It's a lose - lose situation for her.

Hillary is an effective wishy washy moderate Senator. If new York likes her she should stay there.

19. Now this boggles the mind. Murdock, the scum of
the media. What is Hillary thinking? One of the reasons we quit Directv was due to Murdock buying the company. Will this do her any good even in New York?
