Comments, please!!!!!
Just re'cd this from my journalistic group, NAJA.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists, NAJA's partner in UNITY: Journalists of Color, has issued a list of accurate and pejorative terms used to describe immigrants. Of particular concern is a trend to use the word "illegals" as a noun, shorthand for "illegal aliens." NAHJ says not only is it grammatically incorrect, but the term criminalizes the person rather than the action they are purported to have committed and recommends using the term undocumented workers or undocumented immigrants.

1. Stop paying attention to Faux News
No one else uses the term.

Don't legitimize them.

2. This is right up there with Homocide Bomber....
As a ham-handed attempt to swing perceptions through prescriptive language. It looks just as idiotic when done by the left and the right.

3. Agreed. It's prejudice by technicality, a linguistic lynching.
At some point it is cruel to condemn anyone for wishing a better life for his or her family.

In strictly human terms, the yearning for a better life is a greater imperative than whether someone is "documented."

... love the sinner, hate the sin. Last reply to you, Bobbo. You're not as clever as you think you are.

8. It certainly is main stream...
I've read many comments about 'illegals' protesting...as if every person of Latin descent is 'illegal'.
"In the year 1877, the signals were given for the rest of the century: . . . the industrial and political elites of North and South would take hold of the country and organize the greatest march of economic growth in human history. They would do it with the aid of, and at the expense of, black labor, white labor, Chinese labor, European immigrant labor, female labor, rewarding them differently by race, sex, national origin, and social class, in such a way as to create separate levels of oppression -- a skillful terracing to stabilize the pyramid of wealth." (In A People's History of the United States) Howard Zinn, Historian, 1995

9. Gimme a break...

This kind of "political correctness" is embarassing. The fact is they are here illegally. While that really doesn't bother me, it is kind of a punch in the nose to the people who came here and did it the hard way. I think there is a compromise somewhere on this issue, but playing word games like this isn't going to solve anything. It won't change the status of illegals, and the right will be throwing it in our faces an another example of liberal weakness.

13. Can you tell an illegal immigrant
from a legal one? I sure can't.

It's not a matter of polical correctness. Nor is it a matter of liberal weakness. It's a matter of accuracy, and of framing the issue.

12. I use the term "illegal immigrants" in my blog
and will continue to do so particularly when I write about the millions of dollars in damages they do every year when they cross the border onto the Tohono O'odham Indian reservation.
