AMMAN - An Iraqi woman who publicly confessed to being a would-be suicide bomber in last year’s triple hotel bombings in Amman went on trial Monday over the attacks but the case was immediately adjourned.

Sajida al-Rishawi is the only person standing trial for the November 9 attacks that killed 60 people, although Jordan has also charged fugitive Islamist militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi over the bombings.

The state security court adjourned the hearing in order for a defence attorney to be assigned to Rishawi, whose husband blew himself up during a wedding party at one of the hotels.

Rishawi was arrested four days after the bombings and later shown confessing on state television how she tried but failed to activate an explosives belt at the Radisson SAS hotel where the wedding reception was in full swing.
